Volleyball Heads to Indiana for Indiana Invitational Thursday & Friday
Southeast Missouri Volleyball (1-2) will take part in their second tournament to begin the 2025 campaign this Thursday and Friday, Sept. 4-5, in Bloomington, Indiana. The Redhawks will face off with Big Ten Conference member Indiana (Sept. 4) on Thursday evening, before a pair of matches on Friday with Western Michigan (12 p.m.) and Northern Kentucky (3 p.m.). The matches will take place at Indiana University from Wilkinson Hall.Â

Thursday evening's matchup with the Hoosiers will mark the fifth meeting between the two programs on the volleyball court. IU holds a 4-0 advantage over SEMO, with the most recent meeting coming during the 2021 season (IU, 3-2).Â

Western Michigan
The first match of Friday's slate will feature the fifth meeting between the Redhawks and Broncos, and the second in three seasons. Most recently, SEMO defeated WMU by a final score of 3-1 during the 2022 season. Before that, WMU won the first three meetings between the programs. WMU holds a 3-1 series advantage heading into Friday's match.Â

Northern Kentucky
The Redhawks & Norse meet for the second time in program history in the final match of the Indiana Invitational. According to the Southeast Missouri media guide, the two teams met all the way back during the 1984 season for the only meeting between the two in volleyball. Southeast Missouri won the match 3-2. This is the first meeting between the two since SEMO transitioned to Division I during the 1990-91 season.Â

Opening Weekend
SEMO Volleyball opened the 2025 campaign last weekend in Starkville, Mississippi at the 'Maroon & White Invite' hosted by Mississippi State. The Redhawks' first match of the season was a 3-0 sweep of Grambling State in a match that the Redhawks dominated from beginning to end. The Redhawks concluded the tournament with losses to Mississippi State (0-3) and North Alabama (1-3). Outside hitter
Lucy Arndt recorded double-digit kills in all three matches, including a tournament-high 12 kills against MSU.Â

Alaina Lester and
Kara Oxenknecht landed on the 'Maroon & White Invitational' All-Tournament team after last weekend. The duo combined for 16-of-SEMO's-18 blocks as a team as each player recorded eight total blocks. Both players started all three matches, and each recorded a block in all three matches. For Oxenknecht, the weekend marked her first action in a Redhawk uniform after transferring from Northern Iowa after last season.Â

Lucy Arndt is closing in on 1,000 career kills after recording 33 kills over three matches during the opening weekend. Arndt, who began the season with 883 career kills, now sits at 916 kills for her career.Â

Katy St. John found herself in the starting lineup in all three matches this past weekend in her first collegiate volleyball action. The nearby Jackson, Mo.-native recorded 20 kills over three matches and finished the weekend with an impressive .192 hitting-percentage. St. John averaged 2.25 points-per-set (22.5 pts) and chipped in 4.0 total blocks on the weekend.Â

Megan Holder and senior
Alandry Below (pronounced 'Blue') handled the setting responsibilities over the opening weekend. The duo combined for 102 assists between the two of them, each contributing 51 assists, in three matches. They averaged 5.10 assists-per-set as each player recorded 20+ assists in a match. Holder and Below went for 20+ assists against North Alabama with 22 and 21 assists, respectively.Â

The Backline
Junior libero
Nina Schuberth held down the backline for the Redhawks during opening weekend, recording 39 total digs over three matches. The reigning 2024 Ohio Valley Conference 'Defensive Player of the Year' recorded a season-high 22 digs against North Alabama in the final match of the invitational. She recorded just one reception error and finished the weekend with a .979 reception percentage.Â

After one weekend of play, the Redhawks enter the Indiana Invitational with 124 total kills on 354 total attacks. As a team, SEMO committed just 45 errors and are hitting .223 as a team compared to just .212 from their opponents. The Redhawks are averaging 12.40 kills-per-set led by
