EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Southern Indiana edged Southeast Missouri State 2-1 on Sunday at Strassweg Field.
Southern Indiana (5-5-2, 2-0-1 OVC) controlled the offensive momentum in the first half, culminating in a successful penalty kick conversion by Peyton Murphy at 27' to give USI a 1-0 lead. Southeast Missouri State's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Geisler, withstood multiple threats, saving three of USI's eight shots on goal. SEMO managed two shots on target late in the period but was unable to capitalize, trailing as the half concluded.
Southeast Missouri State (0-11-1, 0-2-1) battled back in the second half to level the score at 1-1 when Hogenmiller found the net in the 75th minute, assisted by Baker and Bohnenstiehl. Southern Indiana quickly responded just four minutes later with a penalty kick goal by Eva Boer, regaining the lead. Despite earning multiple corners and maintaining offensive pressure, Southeast Missouri State was unable to equalize again, resulting in a 2-1 defeat at the period's end.
Madison Geisler recorded five saves, facing 19 shots in 90 minutes of play.
Emily Baker contributed with an assist and added one shot.
Carson Bohnenstiehl also registered an assist, taking two shots with one on goal. Notably,
Hayley Hogenmiller scored the team's only goal from her single shot on target, marking her second consecutive game finding the back of the net.
In their next game, Southeast Missouri State will host UT Martin on October 5 at 1 p.m. The matchup is set to take place at Houck Field in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
