Redhawks Fall During Senior Day to Lindenwood Saturday Afternoon

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (5-22, 3-15) fell in their last home game of the season to Lindenwood (20-7, 16-2) by a final score of Saturday afternoon at the Show Me Center.

Zoe Best and Lexi McCully, one of three seniors honored, led the team with 13 points a piece. Best went 5-10 from the field and 2-5 from behind the arc in the contest. McCully made five of her 14 shots while going 3-9 from three point land. The pair came down with five and four total rebounds.

As a team SEMO shot 18-53 (34%) from the floor, 5-19 (26.3%) from deep, and 6-11 (54.5%) from the line during senior day.

McCully drained a deep three from a kick out from Skylar Barnes on the first possession to get the Redhawks on the board. 

At the media, the Lions owned a 10-3 lead with SEMO having turned the ball over five straight possessions.

SEMO ended the first period down 19-8, shooting an abysmal 27.3% (3-11).

The Redhawks began the second quarter with two quick buckets from Best and Briah Hampton. Best sank a three and Hampton tossed in a layup to cut the lead to nine at the 8:43 mark.

Ainaya Williams recorded her fifth point after she hauled in an offensive rebound and put it back in. On the other end she sent a shot back with 3:48 left in the period, with the Redhawks cutting it to single digits 21-28.

A couple of Lions points in a row prompted a SEMO timeout. After the timeout the Lions would end the quarter on a 9-0 run with the Redhawks on a 4:34 scoring drought.

At the half the Lions led 37-21, shooting 13-24 (54.2%) and were nine of nine from the stripe. SEMO went 8-26 during the half and 2-10 from behind the arc.

The second half began with both teams going back and forth until Best drove into the lane and drew the foul for the and one. She sunk the foul shot and would make a layup and a trey in the following moments. 

LU would call a timeout to stop the momentum. They led 42-31 with 6:36 left to play in the quarter.

After the third the lions had pushed their lead to 20 leading 55-35.

The fourth would look like the three quarters before but McCully went 3-4 from the field and 2-2 from three during the quarter.

Odom, Skoff, and Brueggemann all scored 11 to lead Lindenwood in scoring.

The Redhawks will travel to Edwardsville, Ill. Thursday, February 27th. to take on SIUE.
