Redhawks Carry Three Game Winning Streak to UT Martin Saturday
Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (4-8, 2-1 OVC) will be on the road Saturday, January 4, to take on longtime OVC foe UT Martin (4-10, 1-2 OVC). Tip-off is set for 1 p.m., CT. in Martin, Tennessee from the Elam Center. 
 
Series History 
The 'Battle of the Hawks' will commence once again for the 78th time on Saturday afternoon as the Skyhawks own a 46-31 series advantage. UTM has won seven of the last eight in the series including sweeping the Redhawks a season ago. SEMO last defeated UTM during the 2023 season with a 56-54 victory in Cape Girardeau. 
 
Last Time Out
The Redhawks won their third-straight game on Thursday night with a 75-68 victory on the road over Tennessee State in Nashville, Tennessee. Guard Indiya Bowen recorded a career-high 25 points in the contest on 9-for-17 shooting, including 3-for-5 from three, and a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Bowen surpassed her previous record of 20 set in 2023-24. 
 
Bowen was one-of-three Redhawks to finish in double figures, Zoe Best chipped in 18 and Lexi McCully finished with an additional 13 points. As a team, SEMO finished 26-for-62 from the field (41.9) and 8-22 from three (36.4). 
 
SEMO had a staggering advantage at the free throw line, outshooting the home team by nearly 20-percent, 78.9 to 58.5. The Redhawks also turned it up on the defensive end converting 28 forced turnovers into 20 points.
 
Last Three
The Redhawks have strung together three victories in a row, their longest winning streak of the season, with two of the victories coming in conference play. In the three games, the Redhawks are averaging 81.3 points-per-game including a game in which they scored over 100 points. 
 
Start Fast
SEMO has made a resounding change in the first quarter of games over the last few weeks and have now outscored their opponents 196-184 in the opening frame. The first quarter is the only quarter that the Redhawks are outscoring their opponents in. 
 
From Deep
Southeast Missouri has shot the ball exceptionally well from behind the three-point line recently averaging 7.1 made three pointers per game. SEMO has made 85 threes this season. Only Tennessee Tech has made more three pointers as a team (88). The Redhawks rank fifth in the conference in team three-point percentage with a 30.6-percentage. 
 
Defend the Three
Opponents shooting the three have found it difficult when facing SEMO as the Redhawks rank in the top five in the conference in three-point defense. Teams have attempted 228 three pointers this season and have made just 65 of them for a 28.5-percent clip. The Redhawks rank fourth in the OVC in opponent three-point percentage. 
 
Holy Bowen
Guard Indiya Bowen has solidified herself as one of the top scorers on the team averaging 10.3 points-per-game in 2024-25. Over the last five games, Bowen is averaging 15.8 points-per-game including a career-high 25 points against Tennessee State. She has started five games in a row during that span, playing 28 minutes-per-game. 
 
Another Game, Another Block
Center Ainaya Williams continues her block streak after recording another block last night against Tennessee State. Williams now has 18 blocks on the season and Is averaging 2.0 blocks-per-game in nine games played. She leads the OVC in blocks and had a season-high five blocks against Southern Illinois (11/25). 
 
Leading Rebounded
Freshman guard Jariyah Williamson hauled in a team-high nine rebounds against Tennessee State and has now led the Redhawks in rebounds in two-straight contests. Williamson has grabbed 36 rebounds this season for a 3.6 rebounds-per-game average from her guard position. 
 
Scouting the Opponent
UT Martin
The Skyhawks come into the contest with a 4-10 overall record and a 1-2 OVC record after falling last night to Little Rock in Little Rock, Arkansas. The Skyhawks are led by 15th year head coach Kevin McMillan. 
 
Three Skyhawks are averaging north of 10 points per game led by Kenley McCarn who has chipped in 182 points this season for a 13.0 PPG average. Anaya Brown and Shae Littleford follow behind with a 12.7 and 10.6 PPG average, respectively. 
 
On the glass, Brown is their leading rebounded with a 5.1 RPG average, having hauled in 71 rebounds over 14 games played. 
 
As a team, UTM is averaging 65.0 points-per-game and has allowed 70.8 points-per-game to their opponents. They are shooting 42.6-percent from the field, 32.3-percent from three-point range, and are shooting 70.1-percent from the charity stripe.
