DeLaurent and Brown Pick Up Big South-OVC Awards

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri quarterback Paxton DeLaurent was named Big South-Ohio Valley Conference Association Offensive Player of the Week and Payton Brown was tabbed the league's Freshman of the Week Monday.
DeLaurent, who hails from Camdenton, Missouri, put together another strong performance leading #21 SEMO to a stunning 38-21 win at longtime rival and #7 Southern Illinois. He completed 25-of-40 passes for 301 yards and four touchdowns as the Redhawks outgained the Salukis, 449-403.
DeLaurent threw a pair of first-quarter touchdowns to get SEMO an early two-score lead. He then threw another touchdown pass late in the third quarter and one more in the fourth to bury the Salukis for good. DeLaurent's touchdown passes went for 12, 19, 19 and three yards. He has thrown 10 of his 12 touchdown passes in his last two starts alone and ranks second in the Football Championship Subdivision in that category.
A native of Hillsboro, Missouri, Brown ran for 124 yards and one touchdown in the first 100-yard game of his career against SIU. He averaged just under seven yards per carry (6.9) on 18 attempts and caught two passes for 27 yards out of the backfield.
After SIU took its only lead of the game, Brown ripped off a 52-yard run on the first play of the Redhawks ensuing drive which led to a touchdown late in the third quarter. He then hit paydirt on a 1-yard plunge to put the exclamation point on the 38-21 with 3:35 left in the fourth quarter. Brown is the first SEMO player to rush for over 100 yards this season.
DeLaurent claimed his second Big South-OVC Offensive Player of the Week honor in 2024 and Brown picked up the first Freshman of the Week accolade of his career.
Tennessee Tech's Hudson Tucker (Defensive), Eastern Illinois' Jacob Horvath (Co-Specialist) and Lindenwood's Logan Seibert (Co-Specialist) rounded out the week's honorees.
