Football Cracks Top-25 Polls for First Time in 2024

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – After receiving votes in the American Football Coaches Association Coaches and Stats Perform Media polls each of the last two weeks, Southeast Missouri is in the Top-25 for the first time this season.
SEMO was ranked #21 in both the AFCA Coaches and Stats Perform Media polls Monday setting up a battle of Top-25 teams this weekend. The Redhawks cross the Mississippi River to face longtime rival #7 Southern Illinois in the annual War for the Wheel matchup Saturday.
This year marks the 92nd meeting between SEMO and SIU, schools separated just 48 miles apart. SEMO leads the all-time series, which is the longest for both schools, 43-40-8. It will be only the third time the Redhawks and Salukis hook up as ranked teams. SEMO and SIU were also ranked when they played each other in 2020 and 2023.
SEMO is the first Big South-Ohio Valley Conference Association team ranked in the Top-25 this year. It is the first time the Redhawks have been a Top-25 team since they were #16 in the Stats Perform and #20 in the AFCA polls on Sept. 18, 2023.
The Redhawks have been ranked a total of 33 weeks in either poll under Head Coach Tom Matukewicz.
