Redhawks Ring in New Year Tuesday Afternoon Versus William Woods
Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (2-8, 1-1 OVC) will end 2024 on the final day of the year with a matchup with NAIA-member, William Woods (6-6) on Tuesday afternoon from the Show Me Center. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m., CT. in Cape Girardeau.
 
Series History
Tuesday's matchup against SEMO and WWU marks the 12th time the matchup has taken place in women's basketball and just the first matchup since the first game of the 2021-22 season. The Redhawks trail the Owls in the series, 7-4 but have won five-straight dating back to 1982. 
 
Three-Game Week
Tuesday afternoon's contest marks the first-of-three games for the Redhawks this week. Following the Tuesday matinee, the Redhawks will hit the road for two-straight conference games first against Tennessee State (1/2) in Nashville and then against UT Martin (1/4) in Martin, Tennessee. 
 
Last Time Out
 Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (2-8, 1-1 OVC) picked up the first Ohio Valley Conference win of the season on Saturday afternoon with a 67-61 victory over SIUE (2-9, 0-2 OVC) from the Show Me Center. 
 
Freshman guard Zoe Best recorded the first double-double of the season for SEMO with a 15-point, 13 rebound performance. Best led the Redhawks in both categories as she was a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. 
 
As a team, SEMO shot 17-20 from the free throw line (85-percent) led by Best. Jariyah Williamson finished a perfect 1.000 at the line (2-2). 
 
Williamson, who made her second consecutive start on Saturday, finished with 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting. All her shots came from behind the three-point line as she shot 66-percent from deep. 
 
SEMO outrebounded SIUE by a 38-36 advantage, the second time all season the the Redhawks have outrebounded their opponent. SEMO turned 10 offensive rebounds into eight points, and out-scored SIUE in the paint by a 24-20 advantage. 
 
At the Show Me Center
Saturday's victory over SIUE marked the second game this season the Redhawks have won inside the friendly confines of the Show Me Center. SEMO has downed Indiana State (Nov. 25) and SIUE (Dec. 21) to improve their record to 2-3 overall in Cape Girardeau this season. 
 
Season-High Jariyah
Freshman guard Jariyah Williamson made an impact in Saturday's 67-61 victory over SIUE as she made her second-straight start and scored a career-high 14 points against the Cougars. Williamson, who has now played 20-plus minutes in three-straight contests, has averaged 25.6 minutes-per-game. 
 
Top 10
Freshman Zoe Best is coming off back-to-back double-digit performances to open Ohio Valley Conference play and now ranks seventh overall in the league in total scoring. Best is averaging 13.2 points-per-game and has scored 132 points so far this season. 
 
Three-Straight for Bowen
Sophomore Indiya Bowen has started the last three games for the Redhawks after coming off the bench in the previous four. Over the last three, Bowen has averaged 30.6 minutes-per-game, 12.3 points-per-game, and has averaged 2.6 steals-per-game defensively. Bowen recorded a season-high 19 points against Missouri State (Dec. 16). 
 
Scouting the Opponent
William Woods
The Owls come into Tuesday's contest with a 6-6 overall record and a 4-2 conference record in the NAIA's American Midwest Conference. WWU Is on a one-game winning streak after downing Hannibal-La Grange University on December 14. 
 
Sydney Booker is the leading scorer for the Owls. In 12 games played, Booker is averaging 11.8 points-per-game and has dropped in 141 points on the season. Just behind her is India Atkins who averages 11.1 PPG. Peyton Dearing, who missed two games earlier this season, averages 12.4 PPG. 
 
Booker also leads the Owls in rebounding, hauling in 7.2 boards-per-game including an impressive 29 on the offensive glass. Mariah Prince is the next closes with 3.9 RPG. 
 
The Owls are led by fourth year head coach, Terry Nash.
