CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (1-7) fell on Monday afternoon to Missouri State (7-3) by a final score of 77-49 from the Show Me Center behind a season-high 19 points from
Indiya Bowen.
The Redhawks shot 18-63 from the field (28.6-percent) and just 4-23 from three-point range (17.4-percent). SEMO had a great day from the charity stripe going 9-for-11 from the line as a team. Bowen was the lone Redhawk who finished in double figures in the contest.
MSU shot 53-percent from the field (26-49) and 50-percent from deep (8-16) led by Cady Pauley with 17 points.
On the defensive end, SEMO edged the Bears in steals with a 10-8 advantage. The Redhawks forced the Bears into 23 turnovers, converting them into 15 points on the offensive end.
Bowen opened the scoring for the Redhawks at the 8:10 mark in the first quarter with a reverse layup in the lane to make it 3-2 MSU.
After an 11-2 run to open the game from MSU, Bowen halted the scoring draught with a pullup jump shot at the elbow.
Zoe Best would split a pair of free throws before another Bowen layup would make it 11-7 with 3:09 before the end of the first.
Lexi McCully would make the final basket of the opening quarter for SEMO at the 1:51 mark with a driving layup to make it 12-9. MSU's Cady Pauley would hit a layup with 20-seconds left to make it 14-9 MSU after the opening frame.
Anjelicia Del Valle got to the free throw line in the first 30 seconds of the second quarter, splitting a pair of free throws to get the Redhawks to within four points.
After a pair of free throws from MSU's Lainie Douglas, Bowen continued scoring with another layup around the Bears' defense to keep it a four-point ball game.
A 7-0 run from MSU pushed their lead to 11 before a great play from
Skylar Barnes. Barnes blocked a shot on the defensive end, grabbed the rebound, and went coast-to-coast for the layup to halt the visitor's run.
The Bears would go on another run, this one a 4-0 run. Bowen splashed her second three pointer of the contest to halt the quick run, pulling SEMO to within 10 (27-17).
As the clock was winding down,
Jariyah Williamson nailed a three pointer at the halftime buzzer to trim the deficit to 11. At halftime, SEMO trailed 31-20.
Three-straight baskets to start the second half from MSU gave the visitors their largest lead of the afternoon after a Kiley Bess layup made it 37-20 Bears.
McCully would score with 6:36 left in the third quarter on a jump shot off an MSU turnover to cut it 15 points. SEMO would get as close as 13 in the third, with a pullup jump shot from the free throw line by
Zoe Best to make it 43-30 MSU.
The Bears would close the quarter on a 6-0 and take a 49-30 lead into the final quarter. The fourth quarter was all MSU as they would hold on for a 77-49 victory on Monday afternoon.

Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball will return to the Show Me Center on Thursday, December 19, to open Ohio Valley Conference play against Eastern Illinois. Tip-off is set for 5:15 p.m., CT. in Cape Girardeau.
