CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri quarterback
Paxton DeLaurent was named Big South-Ohio Valley Conference Association Offensive Player of the Year and linebacker
Bryce Norman was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year Tuesday.
DeLaurent and Norman highlighted a list of 13 All-Big South-OVC performers for SEMO, including six first-team picks and seven second-team honorees.
A native of Camdenton, Missouri, DeLaurent is the first quarterback in program history to claim the league's prestigious Offensive Player of the Year award. He is the school's fourth Offensive Player of the Year all-time joining running backs Henry Harris (2010), Marquis Terry (2018) and
Geno Hess (2022).
Norman, from Jackson, becomes SEMO's fifth Big South-OVC Defensive Player of the Year. He is the first Redhawk to take the honor in six years. Fellow linebacker Zach Hall was the last to win it in 2018.
The 2024 season marks the first time the Redhawks come away with both the league's Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year accolades in program history.
DeLaurent has put together an outstanding season in his third year as SEMO's starting quarterback. He broke five of his program's career records and four single-season marks. DeLaurent is a finalist for the Stats Perform FedEx Doris Robinson Award and was named Big South-OVC Offensive Player of the Week five times.
He has completed 320-of-533 passes for 3,520 yards and 29 touchdowns and rushed for another three scores through 12 starts. DeLaurent leads the Big South-OVC in passing touchdowns, passing yards, passing yards per game, points responsible for (194) and points responsible for per game (16.2). He is one of 35 finalists for the Stats Perform Walter Payton Award.
Norman is in position to become the first SEMO player to lead his team in tackles four-straight seasons. He enters Saturday's FCS Playoff game with 126 tackles for an average of 10.5 per contest. Norman leads the Redhawks with 13.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. He added eight quarterback hurries, five breakups and two forced fumbles.
Norman registered double-digit tackles on six occasions with a career-high 19 vs. Lindenwood (Nov. 9). He is among 35 finalists for the 2024 Buck Buchanan Award and earned Big South-OVC Defensive Player of the Week honors a total of three times. Norman ranks first in the Big South-OVC and sixth in the FCS in total tackles.
Wide receiver
Dorian Anderson, offensive lineman
Kobe Sixkiller, defensive back
Khalani Riddick and kicker
DC Pippin joined DeLaurent and Norman on the Big South-OVC First-Team.
Anderson went over 100 receiving yards in five games this season and is SEMO's top target with 63 receptions for 930 yards and 10 touchdowns. He leads the Big South-OVC in receiving touchdowns and receptions per game (6.6). Anderson needs 70 more yards to get to 1,000 receiving yards this year. If that happens, he will be the first SEMO player to reach 1,000 receiving yards in a season since Kristian Wilkerson (1,350 in 2019).
Sixkiller has been a staple on the Redhawks offensive line which leads the Big South-OVC in sacks allowed. A four-year starter, Sixkiller has made 26-consecutive starts up front. He claimed All-Big South-OVC honors for the first time in his career.
Riddick, who also garnered second-team honors as a punt returner, is tied for second on the team with 82 tackles. He has one tackle for loss, one interception, five breakups and a fumble recovery, as well. Riddick finished with double-digit tackles three times and returned 19 punts for 204 yards as the Redhawks top return man.
Pippin takes First-Team Big South-OVC accolades for the first time after garnering second-team honors a year ago. He leads the Big South-OVC in scoring and ranks fourth in the FCS with 114 points on 26-of-34 field goals and a near-perfect 36-of-37 PATs. Pippin has made a field goal in 11 of 12 games this season and his 26 field goals made are a SEMO single-season record.
A native of Springfield, Illinois, Pippin became the third kicker in SEMO program history to make 100 PATs in his career. He was named Big South-OVC Specialist of the Week four times and Stats Perform National Special Teams Player of the Week once.
