CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri Volleyball (5-9, 2-1 OVC) downed Ohio Valley Conference foe Little Rock (7-9, 2-1 OVC) by a final score of 3-1 from Houck Field House on Wednesday night.
SEMO won the match after dropping the first set, 25-20, but rallied for a 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 four set victory in front of a crowd of 325 people. The match featured 14 lead changes and was tied 26 different times as the Redhawks won by four, three, and six points, respectively to take the match.
Wednesday's match marked the first home match for the Redhawks in 2024 and was the first win at home since Nov. 4, 2023.
Middle Blocker
Ramiri Gardner finished with a season-best 11 kills on 18 attacks with just one error, for a .556 hitting-percentage. Gardner was one of three Redhawks who finished with double-digit kills as
Lucy Arndt (13) and
Abby Johnson (10) powered the Redhawks to their second conference victory of the season.
Sophomore libero
Nina Schuberth, who was in the starting libero spot for the third consecutive match, recorded a season-high 32 digs in the four-set contest. Schuberth now has four-straight games with 20-plus digs on the backline.
As a team, SEMO outhit Little Rock by a .169 to .127 advantage aided by freshman setter
Megan Holder. Holder dished out 25 assists as she was one-of-two Redhawks in double-digit assist territory. Graduate student
Kennedey Johnson added 15 assists of her own as the duo was responsible for 40-of-50 assists in the match.
The Redhawks fell behind after the first set as the Trojans out hit SEMO in the opening frame by a .220 to .064 hitting advantage.
The first frame was an outlier as SEMO outhit the Trojans in the final three sets including a .371 to .152 advantage in the fourth and decisive set.
In the fourth set,
Ramiri Gardner dialed up one-of-three service aces for the middle blocker in the match to give SEMO a 22-16 lead, forcing LR into a timeout.
After back-to-back Trojan points, the Redhawks settled things down with a timeout of their own before closing the match on a 3-0 run. A bad set, a solo block by
Lucy Arndt, and a final block from
Alaina Lester and
Abby Johnson closed the match.
At the net, the two teams tied with nine blocks a piece. SEMO was led in blocks by Lester and
Abby Johnson with four and three block assists, respectively.

SEMO Volleyball will be back in action on Friday, October 4, when they host Tennessee State. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. at Houck Field House.
