Redhawks Begin Three-Game Road Stretch Thursday at UT Martin
Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (6-11, 3-3 OVC) will hit the road for a midweek Ohio Valley Conference matchup with longtime rival, UT Martin (6-11, 3-3 OVC) on Thursday, January 25. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m., CT. from the Kathleen & Tom Elam Center in Martin, Tenn. 
 
Series History 
The battle of the hawks will commence for the 76th time on Thursday evening as the Redhawks trail the Skyhawks by a series margin of 44-31 but are currently on a one-game win streak in the series. A season ago, guard Kori Tomlin got the ball and hit a floater just outside of the lane to give SEMO a 56-54 victory over UTM on January 19, 2023. SEMO is currently 3-7 in the last 10 against UTM and average 63.6 points-per-game in the series dating back to 2012. 
 
Offense
SEMO comes into the conference matchup with UTM as the OVC's seventh ranked offense. The Redhawks are averaging 66.2 points-per-game so far this season. UTM ranks two sports below SEMO, averaging 62.9 points-per-game and rank ninth overall in the OVC. 
 
The Margins
The Skyhawks and Redhawks come into the matchup with nearly identical scoring margins. Ranked fifth and sixth in the conference, respectively, UTM has a -3.0-scoring margin compared to a -3.4 for the Redhawks. UTM is currently allowing 66.9 points-per-game, while SEMO is allowing 69.6. 
 
Top Three
Both UTM and SEMO have had spectacular seasons from the free-throw line. The Redahwks are currently shooting .755 at the stripe, ranking them third overall in the OVC. The Redhawks have made 240-318 free throws on the season. UTM is second in the OVC in free-throw percentage. The Skyhawks are shooting .763 in their trips to the line, and currently rank second in the OVC. 
 
Defend the Three
SEMO has defended the three-point line very well all season long, ranking fourth in the conference in that category. Opponents are shooting just .316 against the Redhawks over 17 games. Teams have made just 108 threes-out-of-342 attempts in 2023-24. 
 
Last Time Out
SEMO was last in action on Saturday, Jan. 20, when they hosted SIUE at the Show-Me Center. The Redhawks dominated the Cougars to the tune of a 86-72 win in Cape Girardeau, their third conference victory of the season. 
 
Led by Jaliyah Green, five different Redhawks finished in double figures. 
 
Green led the way with 22 points on 7-for-12 shooting and an impressive 5-for-6 from the charity stripe. She also shot 50-percent from three-point land (3-6), to lead SEMO to their third conference victory of the season. 
 
The backcourt sprung SEMO to victory as Alecia Doyle, Indiya Bowen, Kiyley Flowers, and Daejah Richmond were the four other Redhawks in double-digits. Bowen and Richmond both finished with 11 points while Doyle had 10. Flowers finished with 15 points on 50-percent shooting in her best shooting performance in conference play. 
 
As a team, SEMO shot nearly 50-percent from the floor (30-61) and an impressive 33-percent from behind-the-arc (5-15). One of the best free-throw shooting teams in the league, SEMO finished 21-27 from the stripe in Saturday's contest.
 
The Redhawks, defensively, caused havoc for SIUE today forcing 20 Cougar turnovers and converted them into 26 points on the other end. SEMO also won the rebounding battle by a 31-27 margin, 24 of those coming on the defensive glass.
 
SIUE shot 42-percent from the floor led by Sofie Lowis who scored a game-high 23 points on 9-for-15 from the floor.
 
Scouting The Opponent
UT Martin
The Skyhawks enter the game coming off a 38 - 56 loss to Morehead State. During the game Martin shot 13-41 (31.7%) from the field, 1-5 (20%) from behind the arc, and 11-15 (73.3%) from the stripe.
 
Team leader in points per game, Kenley McCarn put up 17 points on 6-13 shooting clip. The Redshirt Freshman is third in the OVC averaging 15.7 PPG. McCarn notched two assists bringing her total to 46.
 
Sophomore forward Lexi Rubel hauled in eight rebounds against the Eagles. Rubel leads the team in assists (67) and steals (30) ranking second and sixth in the OVC.
 
Anya Brown showed up a lot on the stat sheet posting two blocks and two steals, and six points and six rebounds. Brown 2-3 from the field and 2-2 from the charity stripe. The Sophomore leads the team in blocks (28) and rebounds (137), ranking second and third in the conference.
 
The Skyhawks average 62.9 points per game ranking ninth in the OVC and give up 65.9 points per game (6th in the OVC).
 
Head Coach Kevin McMillan is in his 14th year having four OVC titles to his name.
 
Looking Ahead
Following Thursday's contest, SEMO will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 27, when they take on Little Rock. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m., CT. at the Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock, Ark.
