CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's volleyball has released the 2023 regular season schedule, the program announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Redhawks will begin their 13
th season under the leadership of Head Coach
Julie Yankus after finishing last season with a 17-16 overall record, a 10-8 Ohio Valley Conference mark, while making it all the way to the conference tournament final.
Following 2022, Coach Yankus has compiled a 187-183 overall record and a 115-85 Ohio Valley Conference mark during her tenure.
The schedule includes 13 home matches for the Redhawks this season, including nine Ohio Valley Conference matches at Houck Field House.
SEMO will open the season with the SEMO Invitational in Cape Girardeau, Mo. on August 25 when they take on Evansville (11 a.m.) and Central Michigan (7 p.m.). The SEMO Invitational marks the first of four tournaments to begin the 2023 campaign.
The Redhawks will square-off with regional rival Southern Illinois-Carbondale on Saturday, August 26 to conclude the invitational.
Next up will be three road trips in a row as the Redhawks will begin their journey with the Chicago State Tournament hosted by Chicago State University in Chicago, Ill. SEMO will face off with Jacksonville State and UC Irvine (Sept. 1) before concluding the tournament with the host-Chicago State (Sept. 2).
SEMO will travel to Lake Charles, La. to compete in the McNeese State Tournament the following weekend (Sept. 8-9) where they will face off with Jackson State and McNeese State before ending with Sam Houston State.
The final non-conference tournament will take place in Kansas City, Mo. when the Redhawks take part in the KC Roos Classic hosted by UMKC. SEMO will open tournament play with the host, UMKC, on Friday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m., CT.
SEMO will play two matches Friday afternoon when they turn around to take on Saint Louis at 4 p.m. at the Swinney Center.
The Redhawks will round out non-conference play with a familiar foe as SEMO will face-off with Austin Peay in the final match of the KC Roos Classic at 11 a.m., CT. on Saturday, Sept. 16.
Southeast Missouri will open Ohio Valley Conference play in the friendly confines of Houck Field House when Morehead State pays a visit to Cape Girardeau on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 22-23. The matches will be held at 6 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
SEMO will then travel to SIUE on Sept. 29-30 for the first road trip of the conference slate. The matches will take place in Edwardsville, Ill. at 6 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
The Redhawks will host UT Martin (Oct. 6-7), before going on a five-match road streak beginning in the Music City when they take on Tennessee State in Nashville on Oct. 12 & 13. Last season, the Redhawks and Tigers faced off in the OVC Tournament final as the Tigers bested SEMO, 3-2.
Coach Yankus' squad will travel to Little Rock (Oct. 17) and then Eastern Illinois (Oct. 27-28) before returning to Houck Field House to host Little Rock (Oct. 30), the first of three home matches.
SEMO will round out the year beginning with Western Illinois in Cape Girardeau on Friday, Nov. 3 & Saturday, Nov. 4 as the Leathernecks make their first trip to Houck as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference.
The final road trip of the season will see the Redhawks travel to Cookeville, Tenn. to take on the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech who finished the year in second place in the conference a season ago.
SEMO will return home for the final regular season weekend to take on Lindenwood on Wednesday, Nov. 15 and Thursday, Nov. 16.
The Ohio Valley Conference tournament will begin on Monday, November 20, as the time and location are set based on the regular season standings. The Redhawks will look to make it back after winning the tournament in 2021 and finishing runner-up a season ago.
