CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball has announced the signing of 5-11 sophomore forward Abbigail Stephens for the 2023-24 campaign.
The daughter of Wendy and Will Stephens, Abbigail is originally from Uniontown, Ohio but spent the past two seasons at Purdue Fort-Wayne.
Stephens is a stretch-four type player who has a high basketball IQ and has the ability to create her own shot.
In Horizon League action, Stephens averaged 6.9 minutes per game with a .436 shooting percentage from the field (17-39), and 1.1 rebounds per game.
Against Youngstown State and Cleveland State, the two best teams in the Horizon League last season, Stephens averaged 9.6 points per game, including a 66-percent mark from three-point land. She pulled in four rebounds over the three games.
She scored 14 points in the only meeting against YSU and dropped in 11 points and four points in the two regular season matchups with Cleveland State.
Stephens attended Lake High School for the first three years where she averaged 14 points per game and nine rebounds where she was selected to the All-Federal League Team.
In her Lake High School career, she accumulated 620 points, 408 rebounds, and 95 assists and was named her team's Most Valuable Player.
Abbigail played her final season of high school basketball at Archbishop Hoban leading her team to the Division I Sectional title. In the title game, Stephens dropped in 13 points to help clinch a spot in the district semifinals.
She intends to major in Criminal Justice at Southeast Missouri.
