Three Redhawks Selected For OVC Weekly Awards

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri Track & Field secured three weekly awards from the Ohio Valley Conference, the league announced Wednesday afternoon. 
 
Luke Hatfield-Jackson, Breanna Miles, and Makenzie Williams were all selected for athletes of the week for their performances at the Bulldog Relays over this past weekend. 
 
Hatfield-Jackson was selected as the Male Field Athlete of the Week after he broke the Southeast Missouri school record in the high jump, set by himself. 
 
He cleared a height of 7' 2" (2.19m) to pass his previous record (2.178m) to take first place out of 15 athletes in the field. 
 
Breanna Miles broke the school record in the women's 200-meter dash as she was selected as the Female Track Athlete of the Week. 
 
The Memphis, Tenn.-native crossed the finish line in 23.71 to break the school record previously set by Jerika Lewis (23.91) set in 2013, to win the event. 
 
She was also a part of the 4x400-meter relay that finished fourth. 
 
Junior Makenzie Williams was selected as the Female Field Athlete of the Week for her finish in the hammer throw and discus. 
 
Williams heaved the hammer 183' 10" (56.04m) to win the event out of 17 athletes. 
 
She also placed second in the discus as she threw for a distance of 159' 7" (48.64m).
 
Southeast Missouri Track & Field will be back in action on Friday and Saturday, March 31-April 1, when they host the 2023 Joey Haines Invite at the Abe Stuber Track Complex in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Competition will begin on Friday afternoon with the women's hammer throw at 3:30 p.m., CT.
