CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The 2023 Midwest Independent Conference Championship took place on Friday night at a packed Houck Field House in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Southeast Missouri State registered a 195.525 to claim third place in the conference.
Head Coach
Ashley Lawson on the team's performance: "After the blind draw last night, we knew we were starting on the floor which was not our first choice. I thought the girls did a great job of taking the circumstances and turning them into a positive to get us going on the right track. They competed the entire night and we gave ourselves a chance to win. It was not our night, but I am proud of the way they competed and gave it everything they had."
Illinois State claimed first-place on Friday night with a 196.375 narrowly edging out Lindenwood who scored a 196.275 for second place.
Freshman
Taylor Ingle placed third in the all-around competition with a 39.175. Riley Daniels of Lindenwood (39.275) and Alana Laster of Illinois State (39.350) finished second and first, respectively, to round out the all-around.
Floor
The Redhawks began the night on the Floor following the blind draw that took place at Thursday night's championship banquet.
Sophomore
Madison Greene paced the way for SEMO registering a 9.825 in the sixth slot as the Redhawks turned in a floor score of 48.900.
Sophomore
Nyah Reader and senior
Lindsey Moffitt hit back-to-back 9.800s from the fourth and fifth spot, respectively, in the SEMO lineup.
Ingle led off the first rotation, posting a 9.750.
Vault
SEMO would rotate to the Vault following the floor.
Lindsay Ockler posted a 9.850 from the sixth and final slot of the lineup.
Ockler finished tied for third overall on the Vault for her score. She tied with Daisy Woodring of Texas Woman's and Nirel Bart-Williams of Illinois State.
In the fifth spot, Crestwood, Ky.-native
Madison Greene hit a 9.800 before Ockler for another solid score for the Redhawks.
Taylor Ingle and junior
Lydia Webb registered a 9.750 to round out the top-three scores for SEMO as the Redhawks would head to the bye following the first two rotations.
Bars
Following the rotation off, Southeast Missouri would head to the Bars where
Lindsay Ockler once again paced the Redhawks. The 2022 MIC defending Bars champion, Ockler posted a 9.875 in the fifth spot.
Ockler's 9.875 was good enough to win the Bars once again, making her the 2023 MIC Bars Champion. The Huson, Montana-native is the back-to-back Bars champion.
Junior
Lydia Webb finished tied for third overall on Bars with her 9.800.
In the first spot, Ingle posted a 9.775.
Lindsey Moffitt hit a 9.750 to round-out the Redhawks top scorers as the team would head to the final rotation.
Beam
Taylor Ingle and
Nyah Reader hit back-to-back 9.900s in the fourth and fifth spot in the Redhawks rotation.
For Ingle, the 9.900 set a new career-best for the freshman from Coppell, Texas.
Reader, a week from setting her new personal-best, tied her record set last week at Missouri (3/10) with her 9.900.
Webb registered a 9.775, and senior
Molly Maxwell posted a 9.700 from the first slot, to give the Redhawks a final team score of 195.525.
Other Results
Texas Woman's registered a 194.900 to take fourth place at the championship, as Centenary rounded out the five-team competition with a 188.875.
