Women's Basketball Returns to Show-Me Center Tuesday Night Versus Eastern Kentucky
Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (2-7) will welcome in former Ohio Valley Conference rival, Eastern Kentucky (9-3), on Tuesday, Dec. 19 at the Show-Me Center. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m., CT. in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Series History
The Redhawks and Colonels will meet for the 50th time against one another on Tuesday night. The former OVC foes have played 49 times to the tune of an EKU 31-18 series lead. 
 
Last time the two met came back in 2021 as the Colonels beat SEMO by a final score of 82-72 on February 18, 2021, in Cape Girardeau in the final season of Eastern Kentucky in the Ohio Valley Conference. 
 
Stats
Here is how the Redhawks stack up against the rest of the Ohio Valley Conference ahead of the final non-conference matchups of the 2023-24 campaign:
 
  • SEMO ranks fourth in team offense, averaging 67.0 points-per-game and have scored 603 points on the season. 
  • The Redhawks rank third in team field-goal percentage. SEMO currently is shooting .416 on the season and are 221-531 from the field. 
  • SEMO is second in the OVC in team free-throw percentage. The Redhawks are an impressive 120-160 from the charity stripe for a .750 shooting-percentage. 
  • Jaliyah Green is fifth in the league in scoring. She is averaging 15.2 points-per-game and has 137 points scored on the season. 
  • Guard Daejah Richmond is eighth in the conference and first on the Redhawks for assists. Richmond, a freshman from Cordova, Tenn., has dished out 27 assists on the season and is averaging 3.0 assists-per-game. 
 
Last Time Out
SEMO was last in action on Sunday, Dec. 10, falling to Indiana State by a final score of 65-57 in Terre Haute, Ind. 
 
Sophomore Jaliyah Green registered a career-high 23 points in the contest. Green, who came into the contest as SEMO's leading scorer, registered 13-of-her-23 points in the fourth quarter. She finished the game 7-for-19 from the field and an impressive 8-for-10 from the free-throw line. 
 
As a team, the Redhawks shot 19-for-51 from the field (37-percent) and were just 1-for-8 from three-point range. 
 
Forward Abby Stephens registered a new SEMO career-high in points and tied her SEMO career-high in rebounds, finishing with eight and seven, respectively. Stephens also made her third-straight start of the season.
 
SEMO forced 23 Indiana State turnovers and had just 19 of their own as they converted them into 24 points. Green led the Redhawks with three steals. 
 
Freshman guard Daejah Richmond chipped in 10 points off the SEMO bench, as the Redhawks scored 21-of-their-57 points off the bench. Forward Julia Sion scored eight points herself off the bench as well on 3-of-5 shooting.
 
Abby Stephens led all SEMO scorers with eight points, and five rebounds, making her third start of the season. The Uniontown, Ohio-native was 3-of-5 from the floor in the first 20-minutes, including 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. 
 
As a team, SEMO was just under 40-percent shooting in the first half (11-28) and was an impressive 10-for-12 from the free throw line (83-percent). 
 
The Redhawks outrebounded the Sycamores by a 15-14 margin and forced 11 first half turnovers. 
 
Kiyley Bess opened the second half scoring for both sides, draining her only three-pointer of the contest to give ISU an eight-point lead at the 8:38 mark in the third quarter. 
 
Jaliyah Green got the Redhawks on the board with an old-fashioned three-point play, taking the contact and finishing the layup. She converted the free throw as SEMO trailed 40-35 early in the third.
 
SEMO grew cold following a pair of free throws by Daejah Richmond at the 3:56-mark and failed to score until there was just 1:08 left in the quarter. 
 
Trailing by as many as 18 in the fourth quarter, the Redhawks made a ferocious comeback beginning with a Green three-pointer at the 6:11 mark in the game's final 10-minutes. 
 
SEMO utilized its defense to get back in the contest, forcing Indiana State into nine fourth quarter turnovers, converting them into 10 points on the offensive end. 
 
Jaliyah Green's 23rd point came off a layup with 1:23 left in the quarter to get the Redhawks to within six, but a pair of ISU free-throws by Bess sealed the eight-point Sycamore victory.
 
Scouting the Opponent
Eastern Kentucky
The Colonels come to the Show Me Center with a 9-3 record and a 44-52 loss to Chattanooga most recently.
 
EKU mustered just 34.0% and 47.1% shooting from the field and the stripe, while racking up 24 turnovers.
 
The Graduate guard, Ivy Turner led the team with 13 points on a 5-12 (41.7%) and 2-4 (50%) clip from the floor and from deep.
 
Sierra McCullough and NeKiyah Thompson both shot 50% and totaled six points in the game against Chattanooga. McCullough also added ten rebounds bringing her total to team leading 90.
 
The ASUN Preseason Player of the Year, Antwainette Walker leads the team in PPG with 21.4 and has stolen the rock 22 times this year.
 
Alice Recanati is the frontrunner on EKU in assists and steals with 62 and 23. The Senior from Italy is shooting .805 and .460 from the line and the floor.
 
The Colonels average 78 points per game shooting 43.3% from the floor, 33% from behind the arc three, and 67.8% from the Charity Stripe.
 
Looking Ahead
The Redhawks will conclude non-conference play on Thursday, Dec. 21, when they welcome in Evansville for a morning contest. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m. from the Show-Me Center.
