
Redhawks Drop Season Finale to Murray State

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri (6-23, 2-16) ended its 2021-22 season with an 86-54 loss to Murray State (21-8, 13-5) Saturday at the Show Me Center.
SEMO honored Johné Stewart, Deanay Watson and Taelour Pruitt as part of its Graduate Day recognition prior to tip-off.
Stewart gave the Redhawks a nice start sinking the game's first basket on a 3-pointer and accounted for five of her team's first seven points.
Tied, 7-7, MSU put together a 10-0 run to build its first double-digit advantage and it was all Racers from there on. Katelyn Young scored 13 of her game-high 29 points in the first quarter which resulted in the Racers taking an early 25-11 lead.
Young scored her first 21 points in a span of 18 first-half minutes to propel MSU to a 44-23 halftime lead.
After Macey Turley's jumper widened MSU's lead to 39-17 with 2:36 remaining in the second period, the Racers headed into the intermission with their big lead.
MSU heated up to shoot 57.1 percent (16-of-28) from the field and buried 10-of-12 free throws in the first half, while SEMO hit just 25 percent (8-of-32) of its shots.
The Racers then edged the Redhawks, 42-31, in the second half to finish off their Ohio Valley Conference high 21st win.
Young, who scored a career-high 31 points the first time she faced SEMO on Dec. 30, shot 10-of-14 from the field and went a perfect 8-of-8 at the free throw line. She added seven rebounds, as well.
Turley followed with 12 points for the Racers who shot 53.8 percent (28-of-52) from the field for the game.
Kennedi Watkins scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds as SEMO's only player in double figures. As a team, the Redhawks shot 32.8 percent (21-of-64) from the floor and were outmatched on the boards, 42-25.
Jaliyah Green followed with nine points, while Stewart and Watson pitched in seven apiece.
