
Redhawks Set to Run at the 2021 NCAA Midwest Regional Friday in Iowa City

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri cross country is set to run at the 2021 NCAA Midwest Regional Friday at the Ashton Cross Country Course in Iowa City, Iowa, on the campus of the University of Iowa. The women's 6K will commence at 11 a.m., CT followed by the men's 10K slated for 12 p.m.
The host University of Iowa men's cross country team is ranked No. 13 in the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Week Six poll, and the Hawkeye women head into the weekend ranked 10th in the region. Wisconsin sits atop the Big Ten men's side as the nation's ninth ranked squad, and is joined in the top 30 by No. 12 Michigan and No. 23 Minnesota. Four Big Ten women's teams occupy spots in the national top 30, led by Minnesota at No. 5.
SEMO last finished fifth overall in the men's and women's races at the 2021 Ohio Valley Conference Championship held at the Vaughn's Creek Cross Country Course at Percy Warner Park on Oct. 30. The women totaled 145 points while the men accumulated 173 points.
Katie Wegmann led the Redhawk women, covering the 5K course in 19:05.7 for 17th. Seth Gleason paced the men with a time of 26:23.0 for 32nd in the 8K.
Madelyn Gray finished 23rd overall in the 5K with a time of 19:14.9. The freshman from St. Peters, Missouri, continued her impressive start to her Redhawk career finishing second for the SEMO women at the championship.
Rounding out the top five for the women's team was Maddie Keller (30th, 19:30.9), Jane Boessen (39th, 19:42.8) and Claire Morrill (40th, 19:42.9).
Taylor Fox (44th, 19:48.9), Mackenzie Pugh (61st, 20:29.6), Haley Smith (66th, 20:44.4) and Sarah Russom (68th, 21:04.9) also ran in the distance for the SEMO women.
Nick Cimmarusti (35th, 26:35.7), Schuyler Ogden (39th, 26:46.3), Aaron Modrow (40th, 26:46.5), and Byron Sowerby (44th, 26:55.1) rounded out the top five for the men's team following Gleason.
Justin Splitt (48th, 27:08.2), Clayton Eftink (51st, 27:19.2), Noah Little (53rd, 27:31.0), Kory Snyder (60th, 27:45.9) and Travis Sickles (76th, 29:18.6) also represented the Redhawks in the 8K.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SEMO last competed at the NCAA Division I Midwest Region Cross Country Championship in 2019 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Keller, a 2019 First-Team All-OVC honoree, notched a top-100 finish, posting a time of 22:16.8 for 78th out of a field of 235 at her first career Regional.
The SEMO women totaled 717 points for 27th in the team standings to finish ahead of DePaul, Southern Illinois, Drake, Illinois-Chicago, Oklahoma and Western Illinois. The Redhawk men compiled a team score of 825 points for 27th and were led by Caleb Cornelius (149th).
Chris Durr posted a personal-best mark of 34:37.0 for 170th. Aaron Modrow (181st, 35:11.5), Griffin Bailey (35:45.3, 184th) and Terrico Garrett (193rd, 36:47.9) also scored for the SEMO men.
Kory Snyder (36:59.0, 194th) and Austin Perkins (37:25.7, 195th) both represented SEMO in the race as well.
Carli Knott, a 2019 Second-Team All-OVC performer, completed the women's 6K in 22:46.9 for 114th.
Danielle Mohrmann (151st, 23:22.4), Jane Boessen (195th, 24:25.3) and Hannah Eastman (200th, 24:31.5) rounded out the Redhawk women's top-five after Keller and Knott.
Mackenzie Pugh (202nd, 24:38.2) and Katie Wegmann (212th, 24:48.0) also ran in the race for Southeast.
