CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Ten Southeast Missouri football players performed testing exercises in front of scouts during its Pro Day Friday.
In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, several NFL teams have announced that their scouts and coaches have been pulled off the road and will no longer be traveling to represent their teams at this time.
Five NFL teams (Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Rams, Washington Redskins, Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens) and one CFL team (Saskatchewan Roughriders) were initially confirmed to attend the Redhawks Pro Day, but only one team (Baltimore Ravens) made the trip to Cape Girardeau.
"It looked like we just shared a conference championship and won nine games the last two years," said SEMO defensive coordinator and NFL liaison
Bryce Saia. "These guys showed up and crushed it! I'm very proud of them."
Wide receiver
Kristian Wilkerson, defensive linemen
Josh Avery,
Clarence Thornton and
Josh Price, linebackers
Zach Hall and
Justin Swift, tight end
Eric Williams, offensive lineman
Tyler Ford and cornerbacks
DJ Freeman and
Taj Jenkins tested in the bench press, vertical jump, pro agility, 3-cone, 40-yard dash and broad jump.
Wilkerson ran the fastest 40-yard dash time with 4.46 seconds. His time rated 11th among wide receivers at this year's NFL Combine. Wilkerson also registered a 39.5-inch vertical jump, a broad jump of 10'8" and ran the pro agility and 3-cone drills in 4.09 and 6.68 seconds, respectively.
Avery, who played in January's NFLPA Collegiate Bowl at Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, bench pressed 225 pounds a total of 31 times. He tied for fourth with Texas A&M's Justin Madubulke for the most reps among the defensive linemen who participated in the NFL Combine. Avery also ran a 5.1 in the 40-yard dash, putting him just outside the top-10 times by defensive linemen at the combine.
Hall played in the SPIRAL Tropical Bowl in Daytona Beach, Florida back in January. He clocked a 4.69 40-yard dash time and logged 18 reps in the bench press.
Swift had 22 reps in the bench press and ran a 4.68 in the 40-yard dash. Both Hall and Swift also measured at close to 10 feet in the broad jump.
Although Wilkerson, Avery, Hall and Swift had some of the stronger marks, everyone that participated did well overall.
"They all had good days," commented Saia. "Several of these guys will get a look and it will be exciting to see what's next for them."
Results from today's Pro Day will be shared with the rest of the NFL teams later this evening.
