Redhawks Fall to Jacksonville State, 65-58

JACKSONVILLE, Ala.– De'Torrion Ware scored 16 points and had 11 rebounds, and scored seven points in the final two minutes to lead Jacksonville State (11-17, 6-9) to a 65-58 win over Southeast Missouri (7-21, 3-12) Thursday night at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
SEMO narrowed JSU's lead to 57-54 on a 3-pointer by Alex Caldwell with 4:05 remaining and that was as close as it would get the rest of the way as Ware scored five of his final seven points at the free throw line to seal the win for the Gamecocks.
Quatarrius Wilson's turnaround jumper gave SEMO a 36-35 edge with 17:26 left to play and that was the Redhawks last lead of the contest.
SEMO scored the first six points of the game and built a seven-point advantage in the first 4:03 of play. Caldwell and Skyler Hogan each drained a 3-pointer and Nygal Russell later buried a three to put the Redhawks ahead, 13-6, with 15:57 remaining in the first half.
Tied, 14-14, following a free throw by Wilson, JSU went on a 13-4 run to build a 27-18 advantage.
SEMO pulled within two points on two occasions in the last four minutes of the first half when Wilson's layup made it a 27-25 contest with 3:48 left and Darrious Agnew's layup trimmed JSU's lead to 29-27 with 59 seconds to go.
The Gamecocks then headed into the locker room with a 31-27 edge.
Caldwell led SEMO with 13 points, while Wilson added 12 points and seven rebounds, and Hogan pitched in 11 points.
The Redhawks shot 42.9 percent (21-of-49) from the field to JSU's 38.9 percent (21-of-54) clip.
Jacara Cross (15) and Kayne Henry (14) joined Ware with double figures in the scoring column.
SEMO travels to Tennessee Tech Saturday.
