CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Tesia Thompson scored 24 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as Southeast Missouri (12-14, 7-8) came up on the short end of a 56-54 loss to Austin Peay (14-12, 9-6) Thursday night at the Dunn Center.
The double-double marked Thompson's team-high 10th of the season and she scored double figures for the 17th game in a row.
SEMO led by nine (39-30) with 3:51 left to play in the third quarter before APSU battled back to take a 44-43 lead on a Maggie Knowles 3-pointer with 7:18 remaining.
Neither team was ahead by more than four points the rest of the way.Â
Brianah Ferby's layup pushed APSU's lead to 48-44 with a little over five minutes to play, but the Redhawks regained a one-point edge on Thompson's layup at the 4:16 mark.
That would be the last time SEMO would lead although it managed to tie the game (52-52) on two more free throws by Thompson and pull to within one (55-54) on Thompson's jumper with 43 seconds on the clock.
Keisha Gregory's free throw with eight seconds gave APSU a two-point cushion and
Adrianna Murphy missed a 3-pointer with one second as the Governors held on.
Thompson shot 10-of-20 from the field, knocked down one 3-pointer and made 3-of-4 free throws to lead SEMO. She also dished out three assists and had three steals.
As a team, the Redhawks shot 45.8 percent (22-of-48) and made just 2-of-10 from long range.
Three APSU players scored double figures led by Arielle Gonzalez-Varner's 13 points and nine rebounds. Knowles and Gregory followed with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Governors outscored SEMO, 18-8, at the free throw line.
SEMO closes out its four-game road stretch at rival Murray State Saturday.
