Keller and Knott Earn All-OVC Honors as Redhawks Women Place Fourth at OVC Championship Saturday

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Maddie Keller and Carli Knott both placed in the top-10 to earn All-Ohio Valley Conference honors as Southeast Missouri women's cross country grabbed fourth (109 points) as a team in the 5K at the 2019 OVC Cross Country Championship Saturday at the SIUE Cross Country Course. The Southeast men finished eighth (202 points) as a team and were led by Chris Durr who completed the 8K in 33rd.
Keller placed fifth overall in the 5K, crossing the finish line in a personal-best 17:57.3 for First-Team All-OVC laurels. Keller's finish is the best Redhawk women's finish at the Championship since Rebekah Lawson was the runner-up at the 2013 Championship in Morehead, Kentucky. The award also marked the first career All-OVC honor for Keller.
Knott garnered her second career Second-Team All-OVC cross country laurel with a 10th place finish in 18:16.9 Saturday.
Hannah Eastman, Katie Wegmann and Danielle Mohrmann rounded out the Redhawk scorers for fourth overall in the women's team competition. Eastman was 29th in the race in a personal-best 19:02.2 and Wegmann followed in a career-best 19:03.6 for 30th. Mohrmann completed the race in 19:15.3 for 38th.
Durr finished 33rd overall in the 8K in 26:01.7 to pace the Southeast men. Griffin Bailey placed 40th with a mark of 26:23.8.
Freshmen Caleb Cornelius (27:10.9, 51st), Aaron Modrow (27:21.8, 54th) and Terrico Garrett (27:34.0, PR, 58th) rounded out the men's scorers.
The Eastern Kentucky men's and women's teams ran to victories at the Championship. It marked the 14th-straight championship (and 28th overall) for the EKU men, and the eighth-straight and 33rd overall title for the Colonel women.
In the men's race, EKU had the top four finishers to finish with 19 points, which was 42 points better than second place Belmont, who had the fifth and sixth place finishers. Eastern Illinois was third (74), marking its best-finish since 2011, and followed by UT Martin (114), who placed fourth, its highest-ever at the OVC Championship. Morehead State was fifth (151) and followed by Murray State (191), SIUE (202), Southeast (202), Tennessee Tech (241), Austin Peay (286), Jacksonville State (344) and Tennessee State (377).
Ezekiel Rop of the Colonels, the 2019 OVC Athlete of the Year and Athlete of the Championship, was first with an 8K time of 24:35.4.
In the women's race, Eastern Kentucky had three runners in the top nine overall to finish with 54 points, which was six points ahead of runner-up Eastern Illinois (60). Belmont was third (70) and followed by Southeast (109), UT Martin (117), SIUE (162), Morehead State (188), Murray State (204), Tennessee Tech (231), Austin Peay (293), Jacksonville State (339) and Tennessee State (377).
EKU's Viola Seromot, the 2019 OVC Freshman of the Year and Athlete of the Championship, won the OVC title with a 5K time of 17:31.1.
Cory Erdmann of Eastern Kentucky was selected as the OVC Men's Coach of the Year for the second-straight season. Enock Kipchumba (EKU) who finished fifth in the men's 8K was named OVC Men's Freshman of the Year.
UT Martin's Alexis Grandys earned OVC Women's Athlete of the Year. Erin Howarth of Eastern Illinois was picked the 2019 OVC Women's Coach of the Year.
Southeast next heads to Stillwater, Oklahoma, for the 2019 NCAA Midwest Regional held on the campus of Oklahoma State on Friday, Nov. 15.
