Redhawks Fly Past Golden Eagles Friday

Cookeville, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri women's volleyball (10-16, 5-7) swept Tennessee Tech (3-21, 1-11), 25-21, 25-13, 28-26, Friday night at the Hooper Eblen Center.
The win improves Southeast's record to 10-16 and 5-7 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Krissa Gearring led the Redhawks with a 13-kill and 11-dig double-double performance. Nzingha Clarke added nine kills on a match-high hitting clip of .571.
Madara Bajare matched her career-best of seven kills in the contest.
Setter Allie Henkelman dished out 25 assists. Keegan Fornoff compiled 11 and has now eclipsed 1,000 assists in her Redhawks career with 1,003. She ranks 10th all-time in program history.
Libero Ally Dion led SEMO defensively with 16 digs. Henkelman recorded 12 for her team-leading 10th double-double in 2017. Marie Less tied her season-high of 10 digs.
Southeast jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match after claiming the first set, 25-21. The Redhawks grew their lead in the opening set, 18-12, after back-to-back kills from Clarke and Bajare. A kill from Haley Bilbruck made the score, 24-20, and SEMO closed out the set with a block from Krista Berns.
The Redhawks extended their lead to, 2-0, after they cruised through the second set, 25-13. Southeast outhit the Golden Eagles .237 to -.026 in the second stanza.
In the third set, SEMO hit a match-high clip of .269 with 18 kills on 52 total attacks. Southeast had to come from behind in the final set to seal the match. Tennessee Tech led the set, 18-12, before the Redhawks rallied back. Less hit a kill before Southeast went on a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 17-19. Bajare hit back-to-back kills to tighten the score in that rally.
Shealene Little then notched a kill to give TTU a 20-17 edge. Kills from Bajare, Gearring and Henkelman along with a Golden Eagles attack error gave Southeast a 21-20 lead.
Gearring and Less then hit two kills to make the set, 23-22. Less would add two more of her five third-set kills to even the frame at 24-24 and 25-25. Tech would score one more point before Southeast closed the set with a Bajare kill and two Golden Eagles errors.
Southeast led Tennessee Tech in every statistical category in the match. The Redhawks hit .248 in the contest compared to Tech's .081 The Golden Eagles also committed 23 errors while SEMO only had 14.
The Redhawks continue their road slate next weekend at Murray State and Austin Peay. Southeast faces the Racers on Friday, Nov. 3 and then takes on APSU on Saturday, Nov. 4
