Redhawks Place Second in MIC Championship

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- The Southeast Missouri gymnastics team ended its season Saturday evening, hosting the Midwest Independent Conference Championship. Southeast finished in second-place, while Lindenwood (194.925) repeated as champions.
"There's so much to be proud of tonight," said head coach Kristi Ewasko. "The team really put it together and showedgrit and fight. We've trained the details all the way to the finishthis week, and they finally realized what they're capable of! I am looking forward to seeing where this ranks our individuals in the fight for a spot at NCAA Regionals!"
Sophomore Alexis Brawner placed third in the all-around competition with a score of 38.650, good for first-team all-conference. Freshman McKinzie Jones (38.625) and sophomore McKenna Stanley (38.550) each earned second team honors.
The Redhawks opened the meet with a 47.925 on vault. Brawner led the way with a 9.825, winning a share of the title and earning first-team all-conference. Junior Ashley Thomas earned second-team all-conference, finishing the event with a score of 9.700. Freshman Allyson Bell placed third on the team with a 9.525. Sophomores McKenna Stanley and Jordan Clark rounded out the event with scores of 9.475 and 9.400, respectively.
During the second rotation, Southeast tallied a 48.850 on bars, tying a season-high. Four Redhawks scored a 9.725 or higher. Junior Alyssa Tucker paced the squad with a season-high 9.850, garnering first-team all-conference honors. Brawner finished in second on the event, collecting first-team honors, with a score of 9.825. Stanley placed third with a 9.800, good enough for second-team honors. Junior Lauren Israel scored a 9.725 to take fourth on the team. Senior Taylor Penzien closed out the event for Southeast with a 9.650.

Alyssa and McKinzie each brought home second-team all-conference honors.Tucker led the team with a 9.825, setting a new season-best. Freshman McKinzie Jones followed with a 9.800 of her own. Israel (9.750) and Stanley (9.675) finished third and fourth, respectively. Penzien rounded out the rotation with a 9.550.

Brawner followed suit with a 9.875, also earning first-team all-conference. Thomas earned second-team all-conference on the event, placing third on the team with a 9.825. Tucker (9.775) and Stanley (9.600) finished the event for the squad.
Texas Woman's (3rd, 193.325), Illinois State (4th, 192.825), Illinois-Chicago (5th, 191.625) and Centenary (6th, 188.825) rounded out the standings.
