A Look at What's Ahead
Non-conference play will come to an end on Dec. 19 when Southeast hosts Alabama A&M at the Show Me Center for an 11 a.m. tipoff. Ohio Valley Conference play will begin at home on Dec. 29 against Tennessee Tech followed by a New Year's Eve game against Eastern Kentucky. Southeast will then embark on a four-game road stretch to begin the New Year.
Series History
Friday evening's game will be the first meeting between Southeast and Memphis in 40 years. The teams met twice in 1976-77 with Memphis, which was Memphis State at the time, winning both games.
Scouting the Tigers
Memphis currently sits at 3-6 on the season while going 2-2 at home. The Tigers began the season with wins over Missouri State and a road win at Illinois but have since gone 1-5. Most recently, Memphis fell to Little Rock and then on the road at Southern Illinois on Sunday. The Tigers have been playing with nine players of an 11-woman roster this season. Three players are averaging double-digit points with Cheyenne Creighton leading the way with 14.3 points per game followed by Brea Elmore (11.6) and Taylor Williams (11.4). Creighton is the squad leader in rebounding with 6.8 boards per contest.
Looking Back
Despite leading the majority of the game, Southeast Missouri women's basketball ultimately fell to Southern Illinois last Friday afternoon 77-70 in Carbondale, Illinois. Southern Illinois produced a 27-point fourth quarter to overtake the Redhawks and capture its third home victory of the season.
Bri Mitchell turned in her second 20-point game of the season with 21 points against the Salukis. She pulled in six total rebounds, a new season high. In all, Southeast had four players in double-figure scoring.
Olivia Hackmann finished with 15 points while
Hannah Noe had 13.
Deja Jones recorded Southeast's first double-double since Nov. 25, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Seven of Jones' rebounds came under the Redhawks' own basket. Jones is the first Redhawk other than Hackmann to have a double-double this season. The Redhawks were held to 39 percent (30-of-77) shooting from the field while tying a season-low 25 percent (5-of-20) shooting from 3-point range. Southeast outrebounded the Salukis 40-35 while grabbing 22 offensive boards.
Celebrate Me Home
Friday's game will be a homecoming for a pair of Redhawks including senior
Bri Mitchell and freshman
LaTrese Saine. Mitchell hails from the Memphis area where she attended Germantown High School. She was a member of the 1,000-point club and a two-time all-district performer for the Red Devils. While she won't be playing on Friday, Saine will be very close to home, West Memphis, Arkansas.
Wiping the Glass
With a 59-rebound performance against Lipscomb on Dec. 6, the Redhawks skyrocketed into the top-15 nationally in the category, now ranking 15th with 467 total rebounds while also leading the OVC. Prior to the Lipscomb game, the Redhawks ranked 22nd in the country.
Sharp Shooters
As a team, Southeast Missouri ranks 18th nationally in 3-point field goals made (88) and 14th in 3-point field goal percentage (.395). In the OVC, the Redhawks rank second behind Belmont in 3-pointers made but lead in 3-point shooting.
Hannah Noe's 30 3-pointers rank 17th in the country, second in the league. Noe has 82 career made 3-pointers, tying her for ninth in Southeast's career top-10 list. The Redhawks' 16 3-pointers against Stephens (Dec. 4) ranks tied for seventh-most in Division I this season.
Help! I Need Somebody
Sophomore point guard
Adrianna Murphy is third in the nation with 77 assists this season. Her 7.0 assists per game ranks 12th. Murphy has had two double-digit assist performances this season including a career-high 14. Her 14-assist game is the sixth most in an NCAA game this season. As a team, the Redhawks rank 11th in the nation with 188 total assists.
Eyes on a Grand
Olivia Hackmann is quickly approaching one thousand points in her career. She has 948, needing only 52 more.
Bri Mitchell is also well on her way with 866 career points. There are 16 total members of Southeast's 1,000-point club, only seven of which have come in the Division I era. Sonya Daugherty and Tarina Nixon (2005-09) were the last inducted into the club.
