Redhawks Fall to UT Martin, 84-74

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's basketball (12-9, 5-3 OVC) fell to UT Martin (12-7, 5-1 OVC) Sunday afternoon at the Show Me Center, 84-74.
 
Sunday's loss is Southeast's first Ohio Valley Conference loss at home this season.
 
The Skyhawks opend the game with a 5-0 lead on Southeast but back-to-back 3-point buckets by Hannah Noe gave the Redhawks their first lead, 6-5.
 
Noe's 3-pointers sparked an 11-0 run by the Redhawks to go up 11-5 on the Skyhawks. Ashton Luttrull hit a 3-pointer, the Redhawks' fourth, with just under five minutes to play, giving Southeast a 14-7 lead.
 
Down 16-10, UT Martin went on a six-point run to tie the game at 16 all with 2:03 to play. The Skyhawks found a three-point lead with 18 seconds to play, 23-20.
 
Luttrull hit the Redhawks' fifth 3-point basket of the quarter with five seconds to play to tie the game at 23-23 to end the period.
 
The Skyhawks won the second quarter, outscoring the Redhawks, 18-11.
 
With the Redhawks down three, 35-32, the Skyhawks mounted a six-point run to go up by nine, 41-32.
 
Luttrull grabbed an offensive rebound off a missed jumper by Bri Mitchell and got a putback to fall at the buzzer to bring the halftime score to 41-34 in favor of UT Martin.
 
The Redhawks were led by Luttrull in the half with eight points. Erin Bollmann and Noe each contributed six first-half points.
 
UT Martin was able to keep the Redhawk at bay by at least 10 points throughout the entirety of the third period.
 
Imani Johnson punctuated the quarter with a 3-point basket with just seconds left to cut the Skyhawk lead to 60-50 going into the fourth frame.
 
The Redhawk made a solid push against the Skyhawks in the fourth quarter. Down 12, Southeast mounted an 8-0 run to pull within four of the Skyhawks, 64-60, with 5:56 to play.
 
Noe hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to two, 69-67, with 3:41 to play; however, this would be the closest Southeast would get to the Skyhawks.
 
UT Martin went on to go back up by at most 10 points on Southeast.
 
Southeast Missouri fell to UT Martin, 84-74.
 
Johnson led the way for Southeast with 18 points in the game.
 
For the second game in a row, Bollmann fell a rebound short of recording a double-double. Bollmann finished with 16 points and nine rebounds on the day.
 
Other Redhawks in double-figure points included Luttrull with 11 and Noe with 10.
 
While Adrianna Murphy turned in no points in the game, the freshman registered eight assists and six rebounds.
 
Southeast committed a slightly above average 16 turnovers; however, the Skyhawks capitalized on those turnovers for 19 points.
 
The Redhawks hit 10 3-pointers in the game, the most since they hit 12 at Western Illinois on Nov. 24.
 
Haley Howard led the way for the Skyhawks with 25 points in the game. Jessy Ward contributed 17 points to the UT Martin offense while Shy Copney registered 13.
 
Southeast will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 30 when the Austin Peay Lady Govs come to Cape Girardeau. The Redhawks and Lady Govs tip off at 2 p.m.
