PEORIA, Ill. – The 2014 Southeast Missouri cross country season came to a close Friday at the NCAA Midwest Regional. Both teams finished 28th at the Midwest Regional.
"Our ladies ran fantastic today. They ran exactly like I wanted them to," said head coach Ryan Lane. "Gloria Westlake arguably ran the best race of her college career today. Our region is the best in the country and there are two sides to that: first, it's the toughest region of the nine so that pushes us to work harder but if we raced in another region, we would have been top-15 easily. "
Westlake was the Redhawks' top-finisher as she finished the 6K race in 78th-place. Westlake turned in a time of 21:30.9. Rebekah Lawson was only 2.7 seconds behind Westlake, finishing in 84th in 21:33.6. Angela Sumner was next to finish in 147th in 22:17.4. Megan Parks was close behind in 151st with a time of 22:21.0. Mary Dohogne took 199th in 23:08.2. Kristen Richardet (23:10.5) and Sydney O'Brien (23:27.3) finished in 202nd and 208th-places to round out the race for Southeast Missouri.
Lane added, "I decided to sit two of my seniors and our number one runner from conference was sick so we ran a lot of young guys today. I wanted them to race and gain the experience of running a tough regional. Despite running a younger squad, we ran really well considering the circumstances."
Freshman Nathan Cook was the top finisher for the Redhawk men with a time of 32:20.6 in 137th. Marc Maton was nine seconds behind with a 157th-place finish in 32:42.3 while Tyler Beaman finished in 157th with a time of 32:53.0. Ryan Anderson finished 178th in 33:11.5 while Tyson Stoverink took 181st in 33:12.5. Dan Plunkett (33:30.6) and Shane Brown (33:38.6) finished the race for Southeast in 189th and 191st-places.
