Southeast Plays Host to Mars Hill College in Home-Opener
Southeast Missouri (0-1) will play host to Mars Hill College (0-1) in its home-opener Saturday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., CT, at Houck Stadium.
First Meeting
Southeast and Mars Hill College meet for the first time in 2012. The Lions are an NCAA Division II affiliate out of the South Atlantic Conference. MHC won its conference title with an overall 8-3 record and 6-1 mark in league play.
Home-Openers
The Redhawks are 5-1 all-time in home-openers under head coach Tony Samuel. Southeast beat Missouri-Rolla (2006), Southwest Baptist (2007, 2008), Quincy (2009) and Tennessee Tech (2010) it home-openers with Samuel at the helm. The Redhawks only home-opening loss was to regional-rival Southern Illinois (2011).

Southeast is a perfect 6-0 against non-Division I teams under head coach Tony Samuel. All six of those matchups were played at Houck Stadium.
Lathrop Impresses in First Career Start

Scott Lathrop made his first career start against Central Michigan (Aug. 30). A native of Warrenton, Mo., Lathrop completed 10-of-17 passes (59 percent) for 120 yards and a touchdown. He also ran the ball 15 times for 31 yards and one TD. Lathrop's 4-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was the first of his career. He later followed that up with a 15-yard TD pass to
D.J. Foster on a 3rd-and-Goal. Lathrop had a hand in two touchdowns, the most by a Southeast freshman QB since
Matt Scheible accounted for four in his first career start against Austin Peay on Nov. 22, 2008.
