Quick Tips
Redhawks Return to Action
Southeast Missouri (6-6) is back in action when it hosts New Orleans (3-6) Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., CT, at the Show Me Center.
Lengthy Break
Southeast is back on the court following an 11-day layoff. Last week was final exams at the University. The Redhawks have not played since Dec. 8, when they came up short in an 88-85 loss to Central Arkansas in Cape Girardeau.
Road Warriors
Southeast played eight of its first 12 games on the road, but is home for four of its next five contests. After Wednesday's contest, the Redhawks will play their final game before the Christmas holiday at UMKC on Dec. 22. Southeast logged a total of 3,795 miles via charter bus to six different non-conference stops (Lawrence, Kan., Chattanooga, Tenn., Chicago, Ill., New Orleans, La., Hammond, La. and Columbia, Mo.) during its rugged road stretch.
Twelve-Game Club
The Redhawks have already played 12 games this season, and as a result, are one of only three NCAA Division I teams to have played that many games at this point in the year. Southeast (6-6), Illinois (12-0) and Minnesota (11-1) each played 12 games as of Dec. 16, the last official NCAA statistical report.
Stone Probable for Wednesday
Southeast's leading scorer, Tyler Stone, is probable for Wednesday's matchup against New Orleans. Stone injured his right shoulder in a collision during the Redhawks practice Monday.
We Meet Again
The Redhawks and Privateers hook up for the second time this season as part of a home-and-home series. Southeast beat New Orleans, 83-67, in the first-ever meeting between these teams at Lakefront Arena on Nov. 29. The Privateers make their first trip to Cape Girardeau after visiting Southern Illinois on Dec. 17. UNO (0-3 on the road) does not have a win away from home this year.
Redhawks Look to End Skid
Southeast is on a losing streak of two or more games for the second time this season. The Redhawks are coming off back-to-back losses at No. 11 Missouri (Dec. 4) and vs. Central Arkansas (Dec. 8). Southeast has not lost more than three games in a row this season.
Smith Moving in on 200 Career Assists
Marland Smith, after becoming the third player in Southeast history to make 200 career three-pointers on Nov. 29 (at New Orleans), is now moving in on 200 career assists. Smith currently has 196 and is second on the team with 42 this season. Additionally, Smith went over 3,000 career minutes when he played 17 at Missouri (Dec. 4). He has 3,023 in his four-year career.
Block Party
Southeast forward Nino Johnson leads the Ohio Valley Conference and ranks 14th in the nation with 35 blocks in 12 starts this season. Johnson, who ranks third on the team in scoring with 12.3 points and first in rebounding with 10.1 boards per game, has had multiple blocks in 10 contests. He finished with a season-high five swats against Louisiana Tech (Nov. 19) and Central Arkansas (Dec. 8), and is averaging 2.9 blocks per game. Southeast leads the league with a total of 59 blocked shots, a +4 advantage over Austin Peay (55).
Johnson Looks to Crack Top-10 Single-Season Blocks List
Nino Johnson needs just three more swats to join Southeast's all-time single-season blocks leaders. Johnson currently has 35 and move into a three-way tie for 10th if he gets three more blocks. William “Bud” Eley is the all-time single-season blocks leader with 75 in 1998-99. Johnson is the first Southeast player to get 35 or more blocks in a season since his former teammate Leon Powell finished with 42 in 2011-12.
