About Houston – The Cougars are off to an 0-4 start to their season, though each game has been decided by less than 10 points and three contests have been on the road thus far. After dropping decisions to Southeastern Conference foes Mississippi State (72-66) and Alabama (83-74), UH went on the road and fell at Yale (84-82) and McNeese State (76-72). The Cougars play a fast-paced game, as evidenced by the 152.3 total points per game average of their first four contests and 86.2 possessions per 40 minutes (fourth most in the nation). UH has three players averaging double-digit points, led by Porsche Landry's 17.3 average. Jessieka Palmer (11.3 points per game) and Yasmeen Thompson (10.5 points per game) are also scoring in double figures while Thompson is averaging 13.5 rebounds per game. UH has cracked at least 66 points in each game, but has allowed 72 or more in each contest.
About Texas-Pan American – The Broncs dropped to 2-3 on the season after Tuesday night's 96-42 loss at No. 21 Oklahoma State. That loss snapped UTPA's two-game winning streak, during which it averaged 88.5 points per game. In their three losses, the Broncs averaged 45 points per game and scored no more than 59 in any of those contests. KaeLynn Boyd (9.6 points per game) and Bianca Torre (9.2 points per game) are UTPA's top two scorers. Cassandra Moody is the Broncs' top rebounder at 6.8 rebounds per contest.
Last Meeting – In the third-place game of the 2001 Lady Bronc Classic, Southeast stormed out to a 38-22 halftime lead in Edinburg, Texas. Southeast led by as many as 27 points in the second half before finishing off a 72-55 victory.
With two wins, Southeast would…
•Improve to 4-2 for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
•Have its first three-game winning streak since Jan. 29-Feb. 4, 2009.
•Record three-straight road/neutral wins for the first time since the 2008-09 season.
•Surpass its 2011-12 road/neutral site win total (2).
Early Tests – The Redhawks challenged themselves extensively in the early going of the 2012-13 campaign. Last Wednesday's tilt at Kansas, which reached the Sweet 16 in last year's NCAA Tournament, was Southeast's third-straight game against a team that competed in the postseason a year ago. Southeast forged a 44-44 tie at Kansas with over 14 minutes remaining and had the game as close as five points with under three minutes left before falling 68-58. Wright State, who Southeast defeated 78-66 on Nov. 9, advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2012 Women's Basketball Invitational. Southeast traveled to 2012 Women's National Invitational Tournament qualifier UMKC on Nov. 12 and held a 59-58 lead with under two minutes left before falling 69-64. Southeast's latest test came on Monday night, when it traveled to Arkansas State, who was picked second in its division in the preseason Sun Belt Conference coaches poll. The Redhawks erased a 16-point deficit to pick up a one-point win on the road over the Red Wolves.
Mack Attack – Patricia Mack had a night to remember in Monday's win at Arkansas State. The junior forward erupted for a career-high 17 points while grabbing 10 rebounds for her fourth career double-double. With the Redhawks trailing by 14 at halftime, Mack scored 13 points and shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the field in the second half to help them rally to a one-point win. Perhaps no basket was bigger than her three-point make from the corner with under a minute left that pulled Southeast within 51-50. That trifecta was the Columbus, Ohio native's first since she drained two against SIU Edwardsville on Feb. 2, 2010.
Harriel Improving Consistency – One player the Redhawks are hoping to get more consistency from is senior Brittany Harriel. As a junior, Harriel posted a career-high 10.2 points per game along with 6.9 rebounds per game. Harriel has scored in double figures during each of the Redhawks' first four games, the only Southeast player to do so. She is tied for the team lead with 7.0 rebounds per game while her 12.3 points per game ranks second on the team.
Quite the Comeback – Monday night's victory put an end to Southeast's 33-game losing streak in contests it trailed at halftime, a streak that dates back to Dec. 7, 2010 against Western Michigan. Even more impressive was the deficit the Redhawks came back from. After trailing Arkansas State 30-16 at halftime, Southeast stormed back to win 52-51. It marked the first game the Redhawks have won when trailing by 10 or more points at halftime since coming back from a 39-27 halftime deficit to down Eastern Illinois 77-76 on Feb. 10, 2004.
