
Volleyball Picks Up a Pair of Wins at IU Classic

Julie Folliard earned her first two wins as head coach at Southeast
Bloomington, Ind. – The Southeast Missouri State Volleyball team picked up their second win of the season Saturday night in Bloomington, Ind. against Youngstown State.
It was a battle but the team won after a five-set game. “The whole match was a battle of wills and we never gave up,” said head coach Julie Folliard. “We played with so much heart and had lots of players contributing.”
Paige Dossey and Karlee Lurson were named to the all-tournament team. Paige was almost flawless in the wins against Buffalo and Youngstown State. “She did great offensively but also adds so much on defense,” said coach Folliard. Karlee also had a fantastic weekend against Indiana and Youngstown.
The Redhawks will travel to Evansville, Ind. On September 9, 2011 for the Evansville Tournament.
Bloomington, Ind. - The Southeast Missouri volleyball team earned their first victory of the season and their first win under Julie Folliard Saturday morning in Bloomington, Ind against Buffalo. The Redhawks took the match 3-1 by scores of 19-25, 26-24, 25-21 and 27-25.

The Bulls took the first set 25-19. The Bulls (3-2), hit .394 in the first frame with 16 kills and only three attack errors. The Redhawks made seven attacking errors in the first set, hitting only .171.
Southeast (1-5) took the second set 26-24. Southeast hit a.143, but used a 5-0 rally late in the frame to take the win and tie the match up at 1-1.
The Redhawks took the third frame 25-21. Southeast controlled the tempo in the third set using a four-point run to expand their lead to 14-7. The Bulls would come as close as two points, but the Redhawks confidence carried them to the victory in the frame and a 2-1 match lead.
The Bulls controlled the momentum in the opening points of the fourth set, jumping out to a 7-2 advantage early.
“We took an early timeout, we told the team we can do the same thing as we did last night and the timeout brought back confidence,” said Folliard
The Redhawks battled back and tied the set at 11-11, while only hitting .000.
The Redhawks were in control late, but the Bulls rallied to tie the set at 23-23. Southeast remained confident and forced the Bulls to make critical errors late taking the fourth set 27-25 and the match 3-1.
Junior Brittney Kalinoski led the way for the Redhawks with a career-high 12 kills. Kalinoski also added 10 digs. Senior Paige Dossey added eight kills for Southeast.
Sophomores Andrea Baylin and Emily Coon added seven kills apiece to the balanced offense effort for the Redhawks.
Sophomore Julie Shives had 27 set assists in the match, she also added a team-high 17 digs. Junior Samantha Lowman added 16 digs for Southeast.
“Julie did a great job spreading the ball around for us, she was able to find some gaps in the defenders and our girls were able to terminate the ball well,” said Folliard
The Redhawks will be in action this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. against Youngstown State.
