Sakellie Daniels

Sakellie Daniels joins the Redhawks after working two seasons for Katie Meier at University of Miami.

Coach Meier also served as her head coach at UNC Charlotte from 2002-2005.The Hurricanes had two berths in the NCAA Tournament during Daniels stint, finishing with a compiled record of 46-20.  Last season the Hurricanes hosted the first two rounds in Coral Gables.  Daniels came to Miami from her alma mater, Hoke County (N.C.) High School, where she served as the head varsity basketball coach from 2015-17. She led the team to the state playoffs both of her seasons there, ending an eight-year drought.  She also had the opportunity to coach Mahogany Matthews who is now a student-athlete at Marshall University. 

Following her standout career with the Charlotte 49ers where she was named Team MVP 3 seasons 2004-2006.    All Conference USA Freshman team, 2005 All Conference USA Second Team, 2006 First Team Atlantic 10 and Atlantic 10 All Defensive Team. Daniels was named a WNBA Draft prospect in 2006.  She went on to play professionally for eight years in Europe, competing for teams in Germany, Switzerland, Lithuania, Finland and Romania.

While in Switzerland 2009 and 2010, Daniels earned first team all-league and defensive player of the year recognition. During her stint in Finland with Lappeenranta Catz they won the Finnish Cup and also won the Finnish League Championship. She was named first team all-league in Lithuania in 2012 and 2014, also garnering guard of the year accolades the latter time.

A native of Raeford, N.C., Daniels graduated from Charlotte in 2006 after double majoring in Africana studies and communications.
