SEMO Hits the Road to Take on Sycamores
Southeast Missouri Women's Soccer (0-5-0) travels to Terre Haute Indiana to battle against Indiana State (2-3-2) Sunday afternoon.
Series History
The Redhawks are 3-1 against the Sycamores with the most recent match up being on September 1, 2024 where SEMO lost 3-0. That meeting was the first since 2009, where SEMO took down Indiana State 1-0. The first meeting was in 2002 in Cape Girardeau and the Redhawks won 2-0.
Last week
SEMO hosted both Missouri State on Aug. 28 and North Alabama on Aug. 31.
Missouri State
SEMO lost 3-0. Emma Shields scored the first goal for Missouri St. in the 29
th minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, Missouri State added goals from Reilly Herman and Brooke Cattoor. The Bears collected 16 shots but only putting seven on goal. The Redhawks totaled eight shots with five on target.
North Alabama
The Redhawks lost 3-0 as well. The Lions got the scoring started in the 14
th minute when Alice Bussey found the back of the net. After defender
Emma Cloud was shown a red card, the Lions added a goal in the 21
st minute from Alana Owens and Anna Fugarino in the 80
th minute. North Alabama outshot SEMO 18-2 and in shots on goal 9-1.
Stepping Up
Senior
Cayla Koerner moved from the field to goalkeeper after starter
Madison Geisler went down with an injury. In her two games against Missouri State and North Alabama she made 10 saves and a .625 save percentage. She has faced 34 total shots in those games as well.
Koerner also collected a shot on goal, on a set piece, in the game against North Alabama.
New Redhawks
Olivia Klinkhardt and
Skylar Craft both made their SEMO debuts on the last week. Klinkhardt logged 68 minutes in the last two games on the back line and Craft played 54 minutes on defense, including 48 minutes against North Alabama.
Freshman Impressing
Defender
Rachel Kretzer has played all 90-minutes in all five games this season on the backline for the Redhawks, the only player to do so. Against Missouri State midfielder
Zoe Houston and defender
Emma Cloud joined Kretzer in playing the full 90. Against North Alabama only midfielder
Justi Nelson played the whole match.
First Start of the Season
Forward
Emily Baker made her first start of the season, after recovering from an injury. After missing the opener her minutes have increased every game before achieving her first start of the season.
Missouri Valley Conference
This will be the fourth game for SEMO against the MVC. They started off the season against Evansville before playing Southern Illinois and Missouri State in back-to-back games. There is one more game against the MVC on the schedule which will be the next time out against Murray State on Thursday.
