Outright OVC Regular-Season Champions
Southeast Missouri entered the 2024-25 campaign ranked seventh in the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll and won its first outright OVC regular-season title in program history. SEMO clinched its regular-season championship with a statement 83-68 road win at SIU Edwardsville (Feb. 27). It was the Redhawks second OVC regular-season championship in program history and first in 25 years (last in 1999-2000). SEMO initially moved into first in the OVC standings with their 57-45 win at Little Rock (Feb. 11) and stayed there the rest of the regular-season.
Fourth OVC Tournament Championship Berth
Southeast Missouri made the Ohio Valley Conference championship game for the fourth time in program history and second in three years with Brad Korn as its head coach.SEMO cruised by #4 Little Rock, 78-59, to advance to this year's final. That win was the Redhawks largest in an OVC Tournament semifinal game in program history. SEMO has gone 5-1 in its last two OVC Tournaments (4-0 in 2023, 1-1 in 2025).
Double Bye
The Redhawks earned the #1 seed in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament for the first time in school history. Southeast Missouri had been no higher than #2 in its 18 OVC Tournament appearances prior to this year. The double bye automatically put SEMO in the semifinals of the eight-team merit based 2025 OVC Tournament bracket.
19th OVC Tournament Appearance
Southeast Missouri made the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament for the 19th time in program history and fourth time in five years under Head Coach Brad Korn. It was SEMO's fourth trip to the OVC Tournament since it moved to the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana. The Redhawks OVC Tournament appearances came in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025. Korn coached SEMO in all of its OVC Tournament appearances in Evansville.
21 Wins
For only the third time since it moved to the NCAA Division I ranks in 1991-92, Southeast Missouri reached 20 or more wins in a season. SEMO's 21 wins are second-most in a season behind the 1999-2000 team (24-7). The Redhawks other 20-win season in their NCAA Division I era was in 1998-99 (20-9). The 21 wins are the most in a season under Head Coach Brad Korn.
15 OVC Wins
The Redhawks tied a single-season program record with 15 Ohio Valley Conference victories. Southeast Missouri began its 20-game league schedule with a 3-0 record, its best conference start since 2011-12. SEMO dominated the second half of its OVC slate going 9-1 in its final 10 league contests. The 2024-25 team tied the 1998-99 team (15-3) for the school record in OVC wins. SEMO finished second in the OVC during the 1998-99 season.
Amazing Turnaround
Southeast Missouri went from finishing 10th in the Ohio Valley Conference and not making the league's postseason tournament in 2023-24 to winning the outright OVC regular-season title and getting the #1 seed in the tournament. SEMO was 9-22 overall and 4-14 in the OVC a year ago. In 2024-25, SEMO finished with an overall record of 21-12 and 15-5 in OVC play. In terms of wins, the +12 increase is SEMO's best one-year turnaround in program history since the Redhawks went from going 5-24 in 2015-16 to 15-18 in 2016-17 (+10). SEMO's +11 jump in OVC wins is by far the best one-year turnaround since the Redhawks joined the conference in 1991-92.
10-Game Winning Streak
The Redhawks won 10-straight games from Jan. 25 to Feb. 27 for their longest winning streak during the NCAA Division I era. Southeast Missouri never won more than seven-straight games in a season since moving to the Division I ranks. It was the longest winning streak under Head Coach Brad Korn and SEMO's longest in 35 years since the 1989-90 team won 11 in a row.
Undefeated in February
For the first time in its NCAA Division I era, Southeast Missouri went undefeated in February (8-0). The 2024-25 team became the first in 39 years to go unbeaten in February. Ron Shumate's 1985-86 team (8-0) was the last to do it.
OVC Awards
Southeast Missouri's three All-Ohio Valley Conference selections were the most in program history. Guards Rob Martin and Teddy Washington, Jr. earned first-team honors and Brendan Terry garnered second-team accolades. Washington, Jr. was also named to the league's All-Newcomer Team and Martin earned a spot on the OVC All-Tournament Team. Martin and Washington, Jr. gave SEMO two First-Team All-OVC picks in a season for the first time in 20 years. Meanwhile, Brad Korn was voted OVC Coach of the Year becoming just the second in program history to win the prestigious honor. Gary Garner also won the award in 1998-99.
OVC Series Sweeps
The Redhawks swept home-and-home series against five Ohio Valley Conference opponents in 2024-25. Those were the most in a season under Head Coach Brad Korn and most in the last two years combined (4). Southeast Missouri beat SIU Edwardsville, Southern Indiana, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and Western Illinois twice during the regular-season.
Last 24 Games
Southeast Missouri went 18-6 in its final 24 games of the 2024-25 season. SEMO won 11 of its last 13 contests of the year. The Redhawks won by double figures nine times in their final 13 games.Â
Massive Win in Morehead
At the time, Southeast Missouri knocked Ohio Valley Conference leader Morehead State out of first with a big 80-51 road win on Feb. 6. SEMO handed the Eagles their largest home OVC loss in 19 years since MSU dropped an 88-65 decision to then-league member Jacksonville State on Jan. 21, 2006. MSU had won 61 of 68 games at Johnson Arena until that loss. The 29-point win was SEMO's largest at MSU in program history.
Strong at Home
Brad Korn registered a winning record at home for the fifth-straight year as Southeast Missouri's head coach. SEMO's 12-3 record was Korn's best at the Show Me Center. The 12 home victories marked the Redhawks most in a season since the 1999-2000 team went 14-1. SEMO's 12 home victories tied for the most in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2024-25. Korn improved to 44-25 all-time at home. The Redhawks ended the year on a four-game home winning streak.
Fourth Nationally Defending the Three
Southeast Missouri ranked fourth in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage defense. Opponents shot just 28.3 percent from beyond the arc against SEMO in 2024-25. SEMO held its opponent to five or less 3-pointers made in 22 of its 33 games this season.
What a Year for Martin
Point guard Rob Martin ended the 2024-25 season with double figures in the scoring column in his final 18 starts. It was the longest double-digit scoring streak of Martin's career. He scored 15 points against Southern Indiana (Jan. 9) and followed that up with 21 vs. Morehead State (Jan. 11), 19 vs. Little Rock (Jan. 14), 13 at Tennessee Tech (Jan. 16), 12 at Lindenwood (Jan. 23), 16 at Western Illinois (Jan. 25), 18 vs. UT Martin (Jan. 30), 22 vs. Tennessee State (Feb. 1), 27 at Morehead State (Feb. 6), 15 at Southern Indiana (Feb. 8), 17 at Little Rock (Feb. 11), 17 vs. Tennessee Tech (Feb. 15), 10 vs. Western Illinois (Feb. 20), 26 vs. Lindenwood (Feb. 22), a career-high 31 at SIU Edwardsville (Feb. 27), 18 at Eastern Illinois (Mar. 1), 21 vs. Little Rock (Mar. 7) and 18 vs. SIU Edwardsville (Mar. 8). Martin (14.8 ppg) led SEMO in scoring for the second year in a row. He also ranked fifth in scoring during Ohio Valley Conference play with 16.3 points per game. Martin finished as the Redhawks top scorer a total of 13 times in 2024-25. He earned First-Team All-OVC honors for the first time and went over 250 assists in his career.
Big Debut Seasons for Washington, Jr. and Terry
Guard Teddy Washington, Jr. and forward Brendan Terry enjoyed strong first seasons at Southeast Missouri in 2024-25. Washington, Jr. and Terry ranked second and third on the team in scoring with 13.9 and 11.2 points per game, respectively. Washington, Jr. led SEMO in rebounds (5.4 rpg), steals (63) and 3-pointers made (58), while Terry was first on the team with 24 blocks and ranked second behind Washington, Jr. with 4.5 boards per contest. Washington, Jr. joined Rob Martin on the All-OVC First-Team and Terry was a Second-Team pick.
Major Improvement at the Free Throw Line
After finishing 10th in the Ohio Valley Conference in free throw percentage a year ago, Southeast Missouri ranked second in that category in 2024-25. SEMO shot 72.2 percent (398-of-551) at the charity stripe. In conference games, the Redhawks were first with a 74 percent clip (259-of-350).
OVC Leader in Turnover Margin
Southeast Missouri led the Ohio Valley Conference with a +3.03 turnover margin. SEMO committed 10.6 turnovers per game, fewest in the OVC. The Redhawks forced 13.7 per contest. SEMO turned the ball over less than 10 times a total of 15 times in 2024-25.Â
Road Show
Southeast Missouri finished with an 8-7 record in true road games in 2024-25. It was SEMO's first winning record on the road in 25 years. The Redhawks, at one time, won five-straight away from home for their longest road winning streak in their NCAA Division I era. SEMO's last winning record on the road was 7-5 in 1999-2000. The Redhawks ended a streak of 24-straight seasons with a losing record on the road.Â
