BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Marshall Swadley,
Anna Thomason and
Sydney Burdine were selected as OVC Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced Wednesday morning.
Swadley, a graduate student from Willard, Missouri, earned the male field athlete of the week after winning two events at the John Gartland Invite. In the shot put, he topped a field of 17 throwers by setting a new personal best mark of 60-10.5. He also won the weight throw also setting another personal best mark of 65-9.5. His shot put distance currently ranks fourth among D1 men's throwers, while his weight throw places him 20
th.
Thomason, a senior from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, won the female field athlete of the week when she broke her own SEMO record scoring 3901 points in the heptathlon. Throughout the competition she won four out of the five events. She set new event personal bests in the 800-meters (2:23.22) along with the shot put (37-3.25). Thomason also won the long jump and the 60-meter hurdles in the event.
Burdine, a junior from St. Louis, Missouri, was awarded the female track athlete of the week by winning the 400-meters with a mark of 56.09, which set a meet record. Her 400-meter time currently ranks 12
th in D1. Burdine also finished seventh in the 60-meter dash (7.83) and the 4x400-meter relay finished second.
The Redhawks will return to the track January 10
th when they host the Redhawks Invite in the SEMO Rec Center.
