Redhawks Continue OVC Play Saturday Versus SIUE
Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (1-8, 0-1 OVC) will return to the Show Me Center on Saturday, December 21, to take on SIUE (2-8, 0-1 OVC) to continue conference play. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m., CT. in Cape Girardeau. 
 
Series History
The Redhawks and Cougars meet for the 51st time in the series on Saturday afternoon. SEMO holds an overall record of 31-19 against SIUE in women's basketball and swept the season series in 2023-24. The Redhawks are 18-6 all-time in Cape Girardeau against SIUE. 
 
Season Sweep
In 2023-24, the Redhawks took both games from SIUE beginning with an 86-72 victory in Cape Girardeau on January 20. SEMO then traveled to Edwardsville nearly a month later and picked up a 10-point victory, 67-57, to compete the season sweep. 
 
Last Time Out
The Redhawks opened Ohio Valley Conference play on Thursday night falling to Eastern Illinois by a final score of 71-55 in Cape Girardeau. Guard Zoe Best led all scorers with 19 points, eight of them coming in the final quarter, as she finished 7-for-18 from the field including 3-of-9 from three-point range. She was also a perfect 2-for-2 at the charity stripe. 
 
Indiya Bowen, coming off a 19-point performance on Monday afternoon, chipped in 10 points of her own for her second-straight game with double figures. Fellow guard Skylar Barnes recorded a season-high 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting and was 2-for-3 from three. 
 
The Redhawks forced EIU into 25 turnovers and converted them into 21 points, but the Panthers controlled the glass behind 18 rebounds from Macy McGlone, outrebounding the Redhawks 43-24. McGlone finished with a team-high 17 points.
 
Leading Rebounder
Freshman guard Jariyah Williamson hauled in a career-high seven rebounds in Thursday's contest bringing her total to 13 rebounds on the season. Williamson's seven rebounds surpassed her previous career best set on Monday (4). She led all Redhawks on Thursday night in rebounds. 
 
Bowen Time
Preseason OVC 'Player to Watch' Indiya Bowen has caught fire over the last four games as she has scored north of 10 points in four-of-five-games including 10 points on Thursday night. Over the last five games, Bowen is averaging 10.6 points-per-game and set a season-high against Missouri State with 19 points. 
 
Sky(lar) is the Limit
Newcomer Skylar Barnes has seen a rise in game time over the last three games coming off the bench for the Redhawks. Over the last three games, Barnes is averaging 14.3 minutes-per-game. In Thursday's game, she recorded a season-high two three pointers (2-3) and turned in 10 points just missing her previous high of 11 against Texas (11/10). 
 
Be the Best
Freshman Zoe Best recorded her sixth double digit game of the season on Thursday night with a team-high 19 points against Eastern Illinois. The Bel-Nor, Missouri-native now has double-digits in six-of-nine games in 2024-25. She is currently averaging 13.0 points-per-game and has a career-high 25 points against Dayton (11/5). 
 
Defensive Thief
On the defensive end of the floor, the Redhawks have done a great job of stealing the ball from their opponents to the tune of 9.2 steals-per-game. Earlier this season, SEMO set a season-high with 14 steals as a team against Evansville (11/14). Guards Kennedy Claybrooks and Indiya Bowen lead the team with 17 and 16 steals, respectively. 
 
100 Club
Zoe Best surpassed 100 points for the season on Thursday night, dumping in 19 more points against EIU. Best now has 117 points and leads all Redhawks in the category. Fellow guard Lexi McCully is next on that list as she has totaled 84 points this season. 
 
Finish Strong
Through the first nine games of the season, the Redhawks have found the most success scoring the basketball in the fourth quarter. SEMO has totaled 145 points in the fourth quarter of games this season, the most of any quarter. 
 
Scouting SIUE
The Cougars come to the Show Me Center coming off a 83-60 loss against their first OVC opponent the Little Rock Trojans. SIUE currently has two wins on the season, those two wins coming against SIU Carbondale and Roosevelt University.
 
Against Little Rock, SIU Edwardsville shot 33.3% from the field, 31.6% from behind the arc, and an impressive 80% from the free throw line. SIUE had two players score double digit numbers, Brianna Wooldridge scored 11 points while Molly Sheehan scored a team high 15.
 
Wooldridge, SIUE starting forward, also added three assists and three rebounds along with her 15 points. The Junior is currently leading the team in points per game (9.5), rebounds per game (4.8) and steals with nine this season. Wooldridge is also shooting 45.2% from the field this year.
 
Starting guard, Macy Silvey, is currently shooting 37.7% from deep this year and has 20 made 3-pointers on the season which is fifth best in the OVC. Silvey averages a team high 26.9 minutes per game and is the only Cougar to start all 10 games this year.
 
On the season, SIU Edwardsville is averaging 59.8 points per game and shooting 35.7% from the field, 28.4% from three-point land, and 69.7% from the charity stripe. The Cougars average 6.1 threes made per game which ranks fourth best in the OVC.
 
Defensively, the Cougars are allowing their opponents to score 72.6 points per game while also shooting 41.1% from the field. SIUE is averaging 37.9 rebounds per game, (41.5 opponents), 11.9 assists per game (15.7 opponents), and 18.8 turnovers per game, (14.6 opponents).
 
Samantha Quigley Smith enters her fourth season at the helm of the women's basketball program at SIU Edwardsville. Quigley Smith current has a 29-74 overall record and a 17-38 conference record as the Cougars head coach.
