CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri Cross Country has announced the signing of two Redhawks Monday afternoon. Daphne Bishop and Claire Horstmann will be joining Head Coach Ryan Lane and the Redhawks for the 2025 season.
Daphne BishopÂ
Daphne is from Wildwood, Missouri and will join the squad after graduating from Eureka where she lettered all four years for Head Coach Darrell Lewis.
Daphne is the 4th fastest runner in her school's history and has personal best times of 5:13.91 in the 1600-meter, 11:23.86 in the 3200-meter, and 18:23.20 in the 5k race.
During her senior season she placed first in the Conference meet and was named to the Class 5 cross country All-State after placing seventh in the state meet. Was awarded the Gold Standard award and Big River First Team All Metro.
As a Junior and Sophomore made cross country 1st-Team All-Conference after placing 4th both years. Qualified for the cross country state meet and the 4x800, 1600-meter, and 3200-meter in track and field as a Junior. Was also named the cross country and track team MVP during her junior year
During her Freshman campaign was a Class 5 cross country State Qualifier and was named to Track 2nd-Team All-Conference in the 1600-meter.Â
Eureka, during Daphne's four years there, was 2024 Class 5 Cross Country State Champions and Conference champs. In 2023 Eureka placed 11th at the cross country state meet and placed ninth at the state meet in 2021.
In addition to cross country and track, Daphne was a swimmer. In 2023 Daphne was 1st-Team All-Conference in the 100-meter Breaststroke, Class 2 State Finalist in the 100-meter Breaststroke, and was a Class 2 State Qualifier in the 200-meter individual medley.Â
Daphne is not just successful on the track or during meets, she excels in the classroom too. Daphne was named to Academic Renaissance in 2021-2022, 2022-2023, 2023-2024 and is a National Honors Society Member in 2023-2024 and 2024-2025.
Daphne is the daughter of Brandon and Ruth Bishop and she plans to major in Actuarial Science once she gets to SEMO.Â
Claire Horstmann
Claire is the daughter of Greg and Marianne Horstmann and from St. Charles, Missouri. where she will graduate from St. Charles West in 2025 after lettering all four years of high school.
While in High School St. Charles West won the Class 3 cross country state championships in 2022, 2023, and 2024 and was runner up in 2021. St. Charles West was Varsity GAC North Champions all four years of Claire's high school career, District 3 Champions in 2022, 2023, 2024, and was named the Big River All-Metro Girls Cross Country Team of the Year in 2023.
Claire's personal bests are 19:14 in the 5k, 2:37 in the 800-meter, and 5:44 in the 1600-meter.
During her Junior and Sophomore years of high school Claire was named to First-Team All-Conference and First-Team All-State. As a Sophomore her team also won GAC North Varsity Team Champions during the track and field season.
As a Senior she was named to First-Team All-Conference and First-Team All-State again but was also the varsity team captain.
Claire also plays soccer and was on the varsity squad all four years. This past soccer season St. Charles West was District Champions and Clarie was named to Second-Team All-Conference.
In the Classroom, Claire was selected to Cross Country Varsity All-Conference All-Academic in 2022, 2023, and 2024, Cross Country Varsity All-State All-Academic in 2022, 2023, and 2024, and was named to Soccer Varsity All-Conference All-Academic in 2023 and 2024.
Claire has been a member of FCA and student council all throughout high school and a member of the Historian Key Club for two years. She has also been a student Ambassador for three years and a member of National Honors Society for two years.
Once she gets to SEMO Claire plans to major in Elementary/Middle School Education.Â
