MARTIN, Tenn. - Southeast Missouri State Women's basketball (6-12, 3-4 OVC) fell to UT Martin (7-11, 4-3 OVC) Thursday in Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. The Redhawks lost 44-52.
Jaliyah Green and
Daejah Richmond both went into doubles figures during the game. Green notched 14 points (5-14) and five rebounds, two being offensive.Â
Richmond scored 11 of SEMO's 13 bench points on a nice night shooting. The freshman went 4 - 9 (44%) from the floor, 1-1 from deep and 50% from the charity stripe. Richmond also hauled in a team leading eight rebounds.
Anaya Brown led the Skyhawks with 14 points and chalked up 20 rebounds, nine being offensive and added four blocks. Guard Kenley McCarn added 13 points and Sophomore Lexi Rubel had 11 points.
Both teams were solid defensively with the Redhawks sending seven shots back and stealing the rock ten times. Martin notched five blocks and seven steals.
The Redhawks totaled 35 rebounds and ten assists in the contest.
The game featured four lead changes, four ties and each teams biggest lead was eight.
Guard Alceia Doyle put the Redhawks on the board after she was fouled on a three-point attempt. She sank two of them then drove down the lane the next possession for an easy layup at the 6:30 mark.
At the first media timeout Doyle had six of the Redhawks eight points, four coming from the line.
Martin was owning the glass out of the media having five offensive rebounds.
Amiyah Buchanan blocked two shots in a row, putting the Redhawks at four blocks total with 45 seconds left in the first.
Jaliyah Green ended their 3:30 drought after the media, making a nice layup stepping through the defense.
At the end of the first SEMO was up by one but was out-rebounded five to 11.
Buchanan made a beautiful drop step to the baseline for her first points to get the Redhawks rolling in the second quarter.
At the 5:45 mark SEMO kicked it into overdrive starting with a nice Deajah Richmond finger roll to put them up 16 to 14. SEMO's defense also held the Skyhawks scoreless for three minutes before the media timeout.
At the second media timeout the Redhawks were 0-2 from behind the arc and 6 - 16 (37.5%) from the floor.
Coming out of the media Abigail Stevens notched the fifth steal but
Indiya Bowen missed a three pointer to put the Redhawks up by eight.
Richmond ended the quarter on fire starting with a three pointer and then she stole the ball the next possession and drove in for an easy layup, while the defense continued to put the heat on the Skyhawks holding them scoreless for five minutes.
Martin's Rubel ended the drought with a layup in the final minute of the quarter.
At the half SEMO was 9-24 from the field and 1-5 from three point land. UT Martin was held under check on offense, only shooting 22% (6-27) Â from the floor and 9% (1-11) from deep.
To start the second half the Skyhawks made quick buckets by Rubel and McCarn to bring them within two.
Green put SEMO back up by four at the  7:16 mark in the third.
The Skyhawks would then go on a 9-0 run in 3:30 to put them up by three prompting a SEMO timeout.
Both teams would go back and forth trading baskets making the score at 32 - 34 with 1:30 left in the quarter.
During the quarter, the Redhawks shot 3-14 (21.4%) while the Skyhawks went 7-15 (46.7%) and 50% from deep.
Green tied the ball game at 37 with a step back three pointer with the beautiful pass coming from
Kiyley Flowers at 8:08 in the fourth.
Anya Brown grabbed her 17th rebound and put Martin up 43 to 37 with 6:50 left in the game.
Going into the final media timeout the Rehawks played stout D holding Martin 1 - 4 in the last 4:20 minutes
With emotions running high Green and Martin's Norah Clark were both given a technical for shoving each other at the 2:22 mark allowing Clark to make both free throws giving the Skyhawks a six point lead.
With 1:16 Ruble missed both free throws keeping the Redhawks hope alive but on their next possession McCarn pulled up and drained a three pointer putting Martin up by eight with 37 seconds remaining.
The Redhawks numbers were nearly identical to Martin's with shooting clips of 28.6% (16-56) from the field and 17.6% (3-17) from deep while the Skyhawks went 16-54 and 4-18.

The Redhawks are on the road again for their next game against Little Rock. Tip off is slated for 1:00 in Little Rock, Ark.
