Redhawks Trek to Tennessee Tech Saturday
Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (5-10, 2-2 OVC) will travel to Cookeville, Tenn. on Saturday, January 13, to take on Preseason Ohio Valley Conference-favorite Tennessee Tech (6-9, 1-3 OVC). Tip-off is set for 1 p.m., CT. from the Eblen Center. 
 
Series History
Saturday's contest will mark the 50th meeting all-time between the Redhawks and Golden Eagles. Last season, TTU swept the season series. In the last matchup, TTU defeated SEMO 71-65 in Cookeville on February 4. Overall, SEMO trails in the series 26-23 with TTU. 
 
Two-Game Win Streak
SEMO is currently on a two-game win streak with wins over Western Illinois (Jan. 4) and Lindenwood (Jan. 11). The Redhawks have scored 72 and 80 points, respectively, in the previous two matchups for an average of 76 points-per-game. The win streak is the longest of the season and it is also the first time the Redhawks have won back-to-back games all season. 
 
Double-Digit Points
Four Redhawks are on double-digit point scoring streaks over the last few games. Guards Jaliyah Green (3), Alecia Doyle (3), and Kiyley Flowers (1) have all reached double-digits. Forward Amiyah Buchanan scored 10 points against Lindenwood as she is on a one-game streak. 
 
On the Road
SEMO is looking for its second road victory of the season on Saturday after picking up their first road victory of the season against Western Illinois last week. SEMO's last win in Cookeville came in the 2020-21 season with a 79-70 victory over the Golden Eagles. 
 
Stealing Flowers
Guard Kiyley Flowers had three steals in Thursday night's win over Lindenwood. The junior from Raymore, Mo. now has seven games with three-plus steals and is leading the OVC in steals with 37. 
 
Last Time Out
The Redhawks dominated Lindenwood on Thursday night by a final score of 80-63 at the Show-Me Center for their second conference win of the season. 
Preseason First-Team All-OVC selection Jaliyah Green led the way for the Redhawks offensively, scoring 16 points on 6-for-11 shooting and was a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. She finished 2-for-3 from behind the arc as well. 
 
Four Redhawks finished in double-digits, including Green, as SEMO had one of their best offensive days of the season. The backcourt trio of Green, Alecia Doyle, and Kiyley Flowers scored 16, 14, and 12 points, respectively. Forward Amiyah Buchanan finished with 10 points and missed just one shot in the contest. 
 
SEMO scored half of their points the paint with 40 to just 26 from Lindenwood. The Redhawks also outrebounded the Lions by a final margin of 25-16. Kiyley Flowers had a game-high seven rebounds to lead the way. 
 
As a team, SEMO shot 30-for-49 from the field (61-percent) a new season-high in 2023-24. The Redhawks also set a new season-high shooting 50-percent from three-point land (5-10).
 
Scouting the Opponent
Tennessee Tech
The Golden Eagles are coming off a three-point loss to Southern Indiana losing 66-69. Tennessee Tech has lost three of their last four games.
 
Against the Screaming Eagles, Tennessee Tech shot 35.5% from the field, 11.8% from three-point land, and 80% from the free throw line.
 
Kiera Hill came off the bench and led the Golden Eagles in points, scoring 18 going 8-15 from the field. Hill also added six rebounds. 
 
Anna Walker also added double digit points, going 3-7 from the field with 12 points. Walker is leading the team in blocks this season with 22, averaging 1.5 per game (3rd OVC).
 
Graduate Maaliya Owens is leading the team in PPG this season with 14.7 which ranks 6th in the conference. Owens also is ranked first in the OVC in free throw percentage (93%), second in three-point% (39.8%), and second in three-pointers made per game (2.9).
 
As a team the Golden Eagles are fourth in the conference in scoring averaging 67.5 PPG and they are holding their opponents to 64.5 PPG, which is the second best in the OVC.
 
Tennessee Tech is currently sitting in eighth place in the conference with a 1-3 record and they are currently shooting 40.8% from the field, 32.3% from behind the arc, and 73.7% from the stripe.
