MURRAY, Ky. - Southeast Missouri soccer (3-2-1) shut out Murray State (2-6-0) Sunday afternoon with goals coming from sophomore
Cayla Koerner and freshman
Emily Baker. The Redhawks beat the Racers 2-0 with both of their goals coming in the second half.
The Redhawks tied a season high with 14 total shots in the win, with eight different players registering a shot with eight being on goal for a season high.
SEMO went scoreless in the first half but went to work in the second scoring goals in the 47th and 61st minute.
Cayla Koerner scored the first goal for the Redhawks when she received a pass from
Alayna Jakul and slotted it into the bottom right of the goal. This marks her third goal of the year.
Koerner finished the day tying season highs in shots (6) and shots on target (3). To cap off her performance, she added one assist to the stat sheet.
Emily Baker kicked the ball past the goalie into the bottom left of the net off a pass from Koerner for the second goal of the game.
Senior
Maddie Paulson notched the first shot for the Redhawks in the seventh minute, narrowly missing the net.
Emma Brune recorded two shots on target only six minutes apart in the first half. Both saved at the top right of the goal in the 29th and 35th minutes.
Zoey Houston and
Elizabeth Rater both recorded a shot in today's contest. Rater's shot came in the first half at 36:43 and Houston's shot came in the 55th minute in the second half.
Forward
Megan Heisserer registered one shot that was on target in the second half. Heisserer now has three shots on the season with all of them being on target.
Redhawks goalie
Sophia Elfrink notched six saves playing all 90 minutes of the game. The Racers goalie Griselda Revolorio also had six saves on the day.
Mary Hardy tallied four shots, three being on goal to lead the Racers.
Looking Ahead
The Redhawks will return home to Cape Girardeau for a match against Columbia College. First kick is set for 6:00 p.m. C.T., on Thursday, September 14 at Houck Field.
