Redhawks Looking To Bounce Back Saturday Versus Tennessee Tech
Southeast Missouri women's basketball (9-13, 4-7 OVC) will look to snap a two-game losing streak on Saturday, February 4, when they take on the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (13-8, 7-4 OVC) in Cookeville, Tenn. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m., CT. at the Hooper Eblen Center.Â

Tennessee Tech maintains a 10-game lead on the series between the two birds. TTU leads the all-time series by a mark of 35-25 over the Redhawks, having won the most recent matchup by a final score of 76-72.Â

The Golden Eagles have won two-straight in the series, but previous to those games, the Redhawks rattled off seven-in-a-row against TTU.Â
SEMO's last victory over TTU came on February 4, 2021 in Cookeville, Tenn. by a final score of 59-55 at the Eblen Center.Â

TTU comes into Saturday's contest with a 13-8 overall record with a 7-4 Ohio Valley Conference mark. The Golden Eagles are currently residing on a two-game losing streak having most recently lost their Thursday matchup in Morehead, Ky.Â

Morehead held on to defeat TTU by a final score of 70-68 to hand TTU their fourth-conference loss of the season. Tech was led in scoring by forward Anna Walker who dropped in 21 points for the contest including a 9-of-11 (81-percent) mark from the field in the contest.Â

TTU shot 23-of-50 from the field for a 46-percent overall team mark, which was nine-percent higher than MSU, but 17 second-chance points from MSU proved to be the difference as Morehead held on in the waning moments of the fourth.Â

This season, TTU is averaging 70.3 points in conference play (68.3 ppg overall) and is allowing just 61.8 points per game in conference play.Â

Senior guard Maaliya Owens leads the Golden Eagles in scoring at a 13.3 points per game clip and is currently shooting 39.6-percent in conference play.Â
On the glass, freshman guard Reghan Grimes leads TTU with 5.9 rebounds per game. Tech is impressively averaging 11.5 offensive rebounds per game and 25.2 defensive rebounds per game for a 36.7 rebounds per game average.Â

Southeast Missouri (9-14, 4-7) fell to Little Rock (13-9, 10-1) by a score of 58-39 Thursday night at the Show Me Center.

LR, which entered the game shooting 64.1 percent at the free throw line, outscored SEMO, 20-5, in free throws and that was the difference. The Trojans made 20-of-29 for just under 70 percent for the night.Â

Neither team led by more than six points in the opening two quarters of play.Â

SEMO built a 17-11 advantage with less than a minute left in the first quarter when
Kennedi Watkins' jumper followed baskets by both
Jaliyah Green and
Julia Sion.

LR battled back to tie the game at 19-19 on a layup by Faith Lee with 4:24 remaining in the second period. Lee's basket started an 11-2 run the closed out the half and gave the Trojans a 30-21 advantage at the intermission. Lee added a free throw to put LR ahead and the Trojans didn't trail again.Â

SEMO, after shooting over 43 percent in the game's first 10 minutes, went 2-of-18 from the floor at an 11 percent clip in the second quarter.

LR widened its lead to double figures early in the third quarter and pulled ahead by 13 on three occasions before holding a 43-35 lead. SEMO, however, edged the Trojans, 14-13, in the third quarter.Â

The Trojans led by as many as 19 with 38 seconds left in the fourth quarter before closing out their win.

Alecia Doyle led SEMO with nine points and four rebounds for SEMO which shot 25.8 percent (16-of-62) from the field and 2-of-24 from long range. Green,
Kori Tomlin and
Kennedi Watkins followed with six points apiece.

Lee scored a game-high 21 points to lead LR. Angelique Francis added 16 points and Sali Kourouma pulled down 19 rebounds for the Trojans, as well.
