Redhawks Look to Halt Four-Game Losing Skid Thursday Versus Lindenwood
Southeast Missouri (5-10, 0-4 OVC) will host one of the newest members of the Ohio Valley Conference, Lindenwood (1-14, 0-4 OVC), on Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Show-Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m., CT.Â
Â
Series History
Thursday's contest will mark just the second time the Redhawks and Lions have squared off in women's basketball. The first and only meeting between the two came on Dec. 3, 2012 and resulted in a Southeast Missouri victory, 66-56, in Cape Girardeau, Mo.Â
Â
This season marks the first season in Lindenwood's Division-I era.Â
Â
Scouting the Opponent
Lions
Lindenwood comes into Thursday's game with the Redhawks, desperate for their first conference win. A win would halt a current six-game losing streak that the Lions began on Dec. 19, losing to Cleveland State 72-45.Â
Â
Thus far, Lindenwood has dropped their first four conference games and is currently tied for last place in the conference with SEMO.Â
Â
Most recently, Lindenwood lost to Tennessee State in St. Charles, Mo. By a narrow-margin. The Tigers bested the Lions by a final score of 79-74 to hand LU their fourth conference loss of the season.Â
Â
Molly McGrath led the Lions in scoring during the loss to TSU, registering 18 points, eight rebounds, one assist, two steals, and two blocks. A stat-stuffing performance, McGrath has led the Lions in six games this season.
Â
McGrath has started and played in all 15 games this season and averages 31.2 minutes per game for Coach Falco's team. She is currently averaging 11.9 points per game.Â
Â
As a team, Lindenwood is averaging 56.9 points per contest and have allowed 71.6 points per game for a scoring margin of -15.7.Â
Â
So far in conference play, SEMO and Lindenwood have just one common opponent amongst them in the Little Rock Trojans. The Lions went to the Natural State and lost, 62-38, on Jan. 4.Â
Â
Last Time OutÂ
Jaliyah Green scored double figures for the fourth-straight game with 13 points as Southeast Missouri (5-10, 0-4) fell to Little Rock (7-8, 4-0), 65-45, Saturday afternoon at the Jack Stephens Center.
Â
In her fourth start of the season, Green posted double-digits in the scoring column for the sixth time this year.
Â
SEMO never led in the game against the Trojans who are tied for first in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Â
Trailing, 34-23, at halftime, LR went on a 16-2 third-quarter run to put the game out of reach for good. The Trojans held a 10-point advantage at the start of their surge, which ended second-chance layup by Sali Kourouma that put LR ahead, 54-30, with 1:37 left. LR outscored SEMO, 20-9, in the third period.
Â
Tykara Harrison scored five of the Redhawks 13 points in the fourth quarter, where SEMO edged the Trojans, 13-11.
Â
Green shot 4-of-8 from the field, buried one 3-pointer and made 4-of-6 free throws.
Â
Alecia Doyle followed with a near double-double eight points and nine rebounds.Â
Â
SEMO shot 31 percent (16-of-52) from the field to LR's 40 percent (21-of-53) clip. The Trojans also held a 21-9 advantage at the free throw line.
Â
Kourouma led all scorers with 30 points on 10-of-18 shooting and 8-of-9 free throws. She added a team-high seven rebounds, as well. Angelique Francis contributed 13 points.
Â
The Redhawks turned the ball over 28 times. LR converted those miscues into 33 points.
Â
Green Scoring MachineÂ
Sophomore guard
Jaliyah Green is currently on a four-game double-digit point streak dating back to Southern Indiana (12/29). Green, from Wentzville, Mo., had 13 points against Little Rock to lead the team in the category.Â
Â
More impressively, Green has come off the bench in three-of-the-four games during the streak. Her only start was this past Saturday versus Little Rock (1/7).Â
Â
