Redhawks Host Illinois State Friday on Senior Night at Houck Field House
Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics welcomes Illinois State to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Friday for Senior Night at Houck Field House. First rotation is set to commence at 6:30 p.m., CT.

Illinois State
Illinois State finished second overall in the annual GymQuarters Invitational quad meet Feb. 18 at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri. The Redbirds posted a team score of 195.175 behind a school-record breaking vault of 49.350.
Angelica Labat notched a season-high score of 39.325 to win the all-around title. Madison Kipp tied for first place on bars with a career-high score of 9.900 to lead the way for the Redbirds. Labat and J'Chelle Heard tied for second on vault with matching scores of 9.900 to help the Redbirds set a new school record on the event. Jaye Mack tied a career-high with a 9.900 on floor to finish in second place overall.
The Redbirds then defeated Lindenwood by way of a 195.150 to 194.150 final score on Feb. 20 in St. Charles, Missouri. Labat was back at it on Sunday, winning the all-around for the fourth time in a row this time with a score of 39.225 to finish ahead of teammate Alana Laster with a 39.100. Labat set a season-high on vault with a 9.925 to take the event win and was followed in second place by Laster who posted her second 9.9 or better on the event this season. The Redbirds took the top two spots on bars as well, as Sofia Iribarren and Madison Kipp tied for the event win with scores of 9.825. Jaye Mack tied her career-high with a 9.900 on floor to take the event win, and Labat picked up a top-5 finish in fourth place with a 9.825.
Labat was named MIC Gymnast of the Week and Alana Laster earned MIC Newcomer of the Week on Wednesday.
Kaziska Named 2022 AAI Award Nominees
Senior
Anna Kaziska was named a 2022 AAI Award Nominee, Monday. Kaziska, a Louisville, Kentucky, native, is one of 35 nominees for the award.
Kaziska has competed in 38 career meets over all four events. The Louisville, Kentucky, native has captured 41 career event titles and 91 scores of 9.700 or higher. Kaziska won the 2021 USA Gymnastics National Beam Championship and has represented the Redhawks in two NCAA Regionals. Her career highs are 9.8 or higher on each event. Kaziska ranks second in the SEMO Gymnastics record books with a career-best beam score of 9.925. She also is seventh all-time on floor exercise with a personal-high 9.925.
Kaziska was named the MIC Gymnast of the Year in 2020 and the MIC Newcomer of the Year in 2019. She is a nine-time USA Gymnastics All-American and seven-time MIC All-Conference gymnast.
AAI has been presenting the AAI Award to the most outstanding senior female gymnast in the country for over the last 30+ years. Some people have stated it is the Heisman Trophy for Women's gymnastics.
2022 GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational Recap
Anna Speller won the individual beam event title as Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics notched a 193.075 for fourth Feb. 18 at the 2022 GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational quad meet held at The Family Arena.
SEMO opened the competition with a 48.525 on floor.
Anna Kaziska led the way with a 9.850 for fifth at the quad while
Lydia Webb was second on the Redhawks with a 9.775.
The Redhawks then registered a season-best tying 48.375 on vault.
Lindsay Ockler led SEMO with a career-best 9.850 for sixth overall Friday.
Janelle Lopez added a personal-high 9.750 in her Redhawks debut.
SEMO hit a 47.575 on bars in the third rotation of the evening.
Jolie Miller paced the Redhawks with a 9.825 achieved in the anchor position. She finished fifth overall at the quad meet. Ockler added a 9.800 in the fifth lineup slot.
The Redhawks wrapped up the quad meet with a 48.600 on beam. Speller paced the Redhawks with a personal-best matching 9.900 for first overall Friday. Kaziska was third overall at the quad with a 9.850, notched in the anchor slot.
Molly Maxwell totaled 36.900 for third in the all-around competition with a 9.700 on vault and a 9.675 on floor.
Speller is Stellar
Anna Speller won the individual beam event title as Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics notched a 193.075 for fourth Feb. 18 at the 2022 GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational quad meet held at The Family Arena.
Speller, a sophomore from St. Louis, Missouri, matched a personal-best 9.900 beam routine to capture her first career event title. Her 9.900 ranks tied for sixth all-time in SEMO program history for beam. For Speller, it marked her 2022 debut after missing the first five meets of the season.
Lopez Makes Redhawks Debut
Janelle Lopez, a freshman from Cape Coral, Florida, added a personal-high 9.750 on vault in her Redhawks debut Feb. 18 at the 2022 GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational quad meet held at The Family Arena.
She also had an 8.800 on bars at the quad.
Lopez previously competed as an exhibitionist on bars at Kent State's tri meet Jan. 16.
Lopez is from the same hometown (Cape Coral, Florida) as head coach

Freshman
Lindsay Ockler won the bars title Feb. 11 in SEMO's home opener against Lindenwood. The Huson, Montana, native notched a career-best bars set of 9.850 to capture her first career individual event title. Ockler also led the Redhawks with a 9.800 on vault in the anchor position for third at the meet. She closed out the dual against Lindenwood with a 9.450 on floor.
Ockler most recently notched a pair of scores of 9.800 or higher as Feb. 18 at the 2022 GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational quad meet held at The Family Arena. Ockler led SEMO on vault with a career-best 9.850 for sixth overall. She also added a 9.800 in the fifth bars lineup slot and had a 9.575 in the opening rotation on floor. The bars score was Ockler's second 9.800 in 2022 and fifth 9.800 or higher this season.
Ockler finished as the runner-up on vault and bars in a dual with Lindenwood on Jan. 29. She paced the Redhawks with a 9.800 on bars, good for second overall at the meet. Ockler then led the Redhawks once again, this time on vault with a 9.725 for second overall at the dual. She also compiled a 9.700 on floor.
In five career collegiate meets, Ockler has notched a 9.700 or higher in 15 of her 18 events.
She notched a pair of career bests at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic on Jan. 21. Ockler paced SEMO with a career-high 9.825 on vault for second overall at the Classic. She also finished as the runner-up on bars, tallying a 9.825 behind teammate
Jolie Miller (9.875). Ockler was then second on the Redhawks with a personal-best 9.775 on floor to conclude the evening.
The freshman from Huson, Montana, registered her first two career scores of 9.700 or higher in her Redhawks debut at Kent State's quad meet on Jan. 16. She paced the Redhawks on vault and bars. Ockler posted a 9.750 on vault in the second rotation for sixth overall at the tri. She then added a 9.800 on bars for fifth overall at the meet. Ockler opened the meet with a 9.450 on vault.

Anna Kaziska won the beam and floor titles Feb. 11 in SEMO's home opener against Lindenwood. Kaziska captured the beam title with a season-high 9.875. The mark was her second-straight on beam and third in 2022.
Kaziska also tied for first on floor with teammate
Madison Greene. Kaziska and Greene both registered scores of 9.925 in the final rotation. The floor score ranks tied for seventh all-time in SEMO history. For Kaziska, the score matched a career best. Kaziska also tallied a 9.675 on vault in the opening rotation.
She most recently registered a pair of 9.850s on beam and floor Feb. 18 at the 2022 GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational quad meet held at The Family Arena. Kaziska took third on beam and fifth on floor at the quad meet.
Kaziska has earned Midwest Independent Conference Performance of the Week twice in 2022 including most recently on Feb. 2.
She won the beam and floor titles in a dual with Lindenwood Jan. 29 at the Robert F. Hyland Arena. The Louisville, Kentucky, native, won the floor title with a 9.900. Kaziska registered her seventh career 9.900 floor routine in the dual at Lindenwood. She also captured the beam title with a 9.775.
Jolie, Jolie, Jolie!!
Jolie Miller took third overall on bars with a career-best matching 9.875 Feb. 6 at Arkansas. She has registered the score three times on bars in her career as a Redhawk. She also had a 9.725 on beam at the dual.
She most recently registered a 9.825 on bars Feb. 18 at the 2022 GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational quad meet held at The Family Arena.
Miller tallied a pair of 9.600s on vault and beam and a 9.700 on bars Feb. 11 in SEMO's home opener against Lindenwood.
Miller won the bars title with a career-best tying 9.875 at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic on Jan. 21. Miller matched a career-best in the anchor position to pace SEMO on the event.
The junior from Aurora, Colorado, tied her PR set at the 2020 installment of the Tennessee Collegiate Classic. Miller won her first career event title with the score as a freshman in 2020 in Tennessee and grabbed her fourth career title with the same score Jan. 21, 2022. Miller also added a 9.500 on vault in her first time competing on the event as a Redhawk and a 9.800 on beam.
The Reader
Nyah Reader registered a pair of career bests on vault (9.675) and beam Feb. 11 in SEMO's home opener against Lindenwood. Reader, a freshman from Rexford, New York, finished as the runner-up on beam with a career-best 9.850. It marked her second-straight 9.700 plus score on the event in 2022.
She most recently posted a 9.750 on beam Feb. 18 at the 2022 GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational quad meet held at The Family Arena.
Reader previously registered a beam score of 9.750 Feb. 6 at #13 Arkansas. The mark was her first career score of 9.700 plus at SEMO.

Lydia Webb took third in the all-around competition at Arkansas on Feb. 6 with a career-best total of 38.975. The sophomore from Wylie, Texas, notched a trio of personal bests on bars, beam and floor with a 9.825 on all three events. She also had a personal-high 9.500 on vault in her second career collegiate meet competing as an all-arounder. Webb finished fifth overall on beam and sixth on bars.
Webb most recently had a 9.775 on floor, a 9.625 on bars and a 9.500 on beam Feb. 18 at the 2022 GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational quad meet held at The Family Arena.
Webb finished second in the all-around Feb. 11 in SEMO's home opener against Lindenwood with 37.900. She tallied a 9.775 on bars and a 9.725 on floor at the dual. Webb also posted a career-best vault of 9.525. She finished as the runner-up on bars.
Webb previously notched a 9.750 on bars for fifth overall at the 2022 Tennessee Collegiate Classic. It was her first mark of 9.700 or higher of the 2022 campaign.
Webb finished third in the all-around competition Jan. 16 at Kent State's tri meet with 38.150. She competed in the all-around for the first time in her career after serving as a floor specialist in 2021. She notched a 9.650 on bars, a 9.550 on beam, a 9.500 on floor and a 9.450 on vault.
Home Opener Recap
Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics captured five individual event titles as the Redhawks totaled 194.100 Feb. 11 in their home opener at Houck Field House. Lindenwood took the dual with a total score of 195.150.
Lindsay Ockler won the bars while
Anna Kaziska secured the beam title. Kaziska also tied for first overall on floor with her former club teammate,
Madison Greene.
Molly Maxwell earned the all-around crown with 38.200 and
Lydia Webb finished as the runner-up with 37.900. For Ockler and Greene, it marked the first career titles for the freshmen.

Greene has registered three scores of 9.800 or higher on floor in 2022.
She led SEMO with a career-best 9.850 for fourth at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic Jan. 21. The mark was her first score of 9.700 or higher as a Redhawk.
She hit a floor mark of 9.825 for third at Lindenwood's dual on Jan. 29. The mark was Greene's second-straight 9.800 plus floor score.

Maxwell with Another All-Around Title
Molly Maxwell won her second career all-around title with 38.200 Feb. 11 in SEMO's home opener against Lindenwood. Maxwell's best event of the dual was a 9.700 on floor.
She took first in the all-around competition at Lindenwood's dual Jan. 29 in St. Charles, Missouri, for her first career title with a total of 37.775. Her best event of the dual was a 9.700 on floor.
Maxwell, a junior from Milton, Wisconsin, has competed in the all-around competition in all five meets in 2022. She was third in the all-around competition with a season-high total of 38.450 at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic on Jan. 21 with a 9.800 on beam and a 9.725 on floor.
Maxwell also totaled an all-around score of 38.125 at Arkansas on Feb. 6.
Season-Best at Arkansas
SEMO totaled a season-best team score of 194.150 in a dual meet against #13-ranked Arkansas Feb. 6 at Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The Redhawks registered season-highs of 48.250 on vault in the second rotation and a 48.950 on beam in the final event of the afternoon. The beam mark ranks 10th all-time in SEMO program history.
At Lindenwood Dual Recap
SEMO totaled a team score of 191.150 in a dual with Lindenwood Jan. 29 at the Robert F. Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.

Southeast Missouri tallied a team score of 193.375 for third overall at the 2022 Tennessee Collegiate Classic Jan. 21 at the Farm Bureau Exposition Center.
Jolie Miller won the bars title with a career-best tying 9.875.
Molly Maxwell was third in the all-around competition with a season-high total of 38.450.

2022 Season Opener Recap
SEMO opened its 2022 season with a team score of 191.500 Jan. 16 at Kent State's tri meet held at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. Host Kent State won the tri with a team score of 195.300. Northern Illinois was second with 194.150 and SEMO was third at the tri with a mark of 191.500.
The Redhawks best event at the tri was 48.050 on bars. SEMO also had a 47.850 on floor, a 47.825 on beam and 47.775 on vault.

Welcome Back, RED!!!
Ashley Albrecht returned to the Redhawks vault and bars lineups at Kent State's tri meet Jan. 16 after suffering an injury during the 2021 season. She posted a 9.675 on bars and a 9.100 on vault in her first meet back from injury since Feb. 22, 2021, against Lindenwood.

SEMO returns 12 student-athletes from the 2021 USA Gymnastics National Championship Team.
Anna Kaziska, who represented SEMO at the 2021 NCAA Regionals, returns for her senior season. She captured 11 event titles (37 in her career entering 2022) including the 2021 USAG Beam title this past season.

2021 Signees
SEMO head coach
Ashley Lawson announced Nov. 10 the team had inked two student-athletes during the early signing period. Taylor Ingle and Sydney Crouch will join the team next fall for the 2023 season.
Ingle, a Coppell, Texas native, will graduate from Coppell High School in 2022. She was a state, regional and National qualifier in her junior year. Ingle most recently won the 2021 state championship with Texas Dream Gymnastics.
Crouch, who comes to Cape Girardeau by way of Coral Springs, Florida, will graduate from Coral Springs Charter School in 2022. She was a State, Regional and National Qualifier in 2021 during her junior year.
2022 Schedule
The Redhawks will compete in 12 meets while hosting two home competitions with fellow Midwest Independent Conference institutions Illinois State and Lindenwood.
The Redhawks head to Centenary in Shreveport, Louisiana, March 4 before a marquee quad meet against host, Texas Woman's, perennial powerhouse, Oklahoma, and Air Force, March 6 in Denton, Texas. SEMO concludes the regular season at Illinois State March 12 in Normal, Illinois.
The Redhawks will then travel back to Denton, Texas, for the 2022 MIC Championship, which will be contested on Friday, March 18 at Texas Women's University.
To wrap up the season, SEMO will travel to the Empire State to defend its 2021 crown at the 2022 USA Gymnastics National Championship April 7-10 in Ithaca, New York. The competition will be held on the campus of Cornell.
2021 USA Gymnastics National Champions
The Redhawks captured the 2021 USA Gymnastics Women's Collegiate National Championship April 10 at the Show Me Center with a team score of 195.025. Trailing Lindenwood 145.725-145.650 entering the final rotation, SEMO tied a program-best 49.375 on beam to secure the Championship.
SEMO's beam score of 49.375 matched the program-record set at the 2003 MIC Championships (March 29, 2003) where head coach
Ashley Lawson (then Godwin) led SEMO on the event with a 9.975. SEMO also recorded a 48.900 on vault at the 2021 USAG Championship, which tied for the seventh-highest score in SEMO program history.
Dahlia Solorzano-Caruso won the 2021 USA Gymnastics All-Around crown with 39.225.
Makenzie Marciniak was awarded the Mari Rae Sopper Spirit Award at the conclusion of the 2021 USA Gymnastics Championships. Head coach
Ashley Lawson was named the Ken Anderson USAG Coach of the Year for the second-straight season at the conclusion of the 2021 USA Gymnastics Championships. Assistant coach

Molly Maxwell was named to the First Team for all-around and beam and the Second Team for floor.

2021 in Review
SEMO registered a team score of 194.825 to take third at the 2021 Midwest Independent Conference Championships March 19 at Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State. Eight Redhawks earned All-MIC honors for their performances at the Championships and head coach
Ashley Lawson was named the 2021 MIC Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the meet. For Lawson, it was her second-straight season earning the honor.
SEMO averaged a team score of 193.498 in 2021 including six-straight marks of 194 or higher to conclude the season. The Redhawks season-high of 195.150 achieved against Illinois State and Lindenwood on Senior Day (March 12) ranks 10th all-time in SEMO program history. The Redhawks averaged a 48.000 plus on every event this season including a 48.555 on beam, 48.527 on floor, 48.236 on vault and 48.180 on bars. The SEMO season-best floor score of 49.225 posted on March 12 ranks ninth in the school's record books.
Redhawks Crushing it in the classroom
Southeast Missouri ranked 13th among the nation's top Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) academic teams for the 2020-21 season. SEMO posted a 3.78 GPA with 18 of its student-athletes named Academic All-Americans. Over 94 percent of the 2021 Redhawks roster registered a 3.5 or higher GPA.
