Scott Posts Career-Best Outing as Redhawks Fall at UT Martin Monday

MARTIN, TENN – Four Redhawks registered double figures including a career-best 22 from Roshala Scott as Southeast Missouri women's basketball (9-7, 7-4 OVC) fell to Ohio Valley Conference leader UT Martin (11-3, 10-1 OVC), 80-70, Monday at the Elam Center.
 
Scott went to the break with 15 points and finished the contest 8-for-10 from the field. The Earle, Arkansas native, was 4-for-6 from behind the arc and also tied a season-high seven rebounds.
 
LaTrese Saine registered her seventh double-double of the campaign with 10 points and 11 boards. Saine converted 4-for-9 from the field in her fourth double-double in five games. 
 
Tesia Thompson added 14 points with nine rebounds and Terri Smith tallied 12 points.
 
Dasia Young had a game-high 25 points for UT Martin and led a contingent of four Skyhawks in double-figures. Kyannah Grant posted 15; Maddie Waldrop added 13 and Damiah Griffin had 11.
 
SEMO won the tip before taking a very early 4-0 lead on back-to-back baskets from Thompson with 9:16 in the first quarter.
 
The Redhawks extended their advantage to 12-4 after another bucket by Thompson. Thompson paced the Redhawks with eight points in the opening period, shooting 3-for-5.
 
A 3-pointer by Grant cut the SEMO lead to 12-11 and capped a 7-0 Skyhawks run with 3:53 to play in the first.
 
Young then registered a three-point play to knot the contest at 19-19 with just over a minute in the quarter.
 
SEMO then pushed the margin to 10 (34-24), its largest lead of the night, after a bucket from Smith with 6:24 till the break.
 
The Redhawks shot a game-best 67 percent in the second quarter after opening with a clip of 53 percent in the first.
 
The Skyhawks clawed back and finished the half on a 6-1 run to make it a 43-41 game at the break.
 
UTM captured the edge in the third with an 18-11 quarter and made the scoreboard read 59-54 heading to the final 10 minutes of play.
 
The Skyhawks then started the fourth with a bucket by Grant followed by a trey by Griffin to pull ahead, 64-54, at the 9:07 mark.
 
A steal from Smith led to a fast break basket by Scott as the Redhawks came within four (64-60) with 7:39 to play.
 
Waldrop then sunk a jumper to give UTM their largest advantage of the night, 77-65. The Redhawks came as close as six after a 3-pointer by Scott at 3:32.
 
SEMO finished the contest shooting 50 percent from the field while the Skyhawks shot 48 percent and had 20 assists.
 
The Redhawks tallied 19 turnovers in the loss, which amounted to 23 points by UTM.
 
At the charity stripe, SEMO connected at a 64 percent rate.
 
SEMO continues its three-game week with a home meeting against Tennessee Tech on Thursday. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m., CT at the Show Me Center. The Redhawks conclude the week with a 1 p.m. home tip versus Belmont Saturday.
