Tipping Off

The Southeast Missouri women's basketball team heads to Ohio Valley Conference Tournament play to face Belmont at the Ford Center Wednesday. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m., CT, in Evansville, Indiana. This is the fourth straight season the Redhawks have made the OVC Tournament.

2019 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament
Southeast Missouri is finished as the No. 8 seed in the 2019 OVC Tournament. The Redhawks will face Belmont who has clinched the regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the tournament. The 2019 OVC Tournament will be held in Evansville, Indiana and begins Mar. 6. All men's and women's games will be held at the Ford Center. Tickets for the game are available at the Southeast Missouri ticket office.

Shephard Breaks Records
Carrie Shephard broke two single-season records at the conclusion of the 2018-19 season. Shephard made 73 three-pointers and had 215 attempts, for the newprogram high. Shephard, a Steele, Missouri native, recorded a career-high seven threes made in a single game against UT Martin on Jan. 5. Against Belmont this past weekend, she dropped six long shots.

Thompson Leads the OVC
Tesia Thompson is the led the OVC with 519 points, averaging 18.5 points per game. Thompson also leads the league in free throws made (150) and attempted (204). Sophomore Thompson was named to the All-OVC First Team Tuesday.

Series History
Belmont holds the 10-4 edge in the all-time series against Southeast Missouri. The Bruins have won six in a row overall in the series, including the 86-92 win just four days between the last meeting and the tournament.

How We Got Here

The Redhawks are currently 13-16 and 8-10 in Ohio Valley Conference play. SEMO swept SIUE with a 65-62 win in Edwardsville (Jan. 3) and 63-58 victory in Cape Girardeau (Jan. 24). It was the fifth OVC sweep under head coach Rekha Patterson and first against SIUE since 2013-14. SEMO recently defeated Tennessee State 81-54, the largest victory in conference play thus far. 

Scouting the Bruins

The Bruins are 23-6 overall and 16-2 in OVC play. On the road, Belmont is 12-4 and recently fell to UT Martin in overtime, 71-68, on Feb. 28. OVC Player of the Year, Darby Maggard, averages 17.1 points per game. Ellie Harmeyer averages 16.8 points and 9.1 rebounds per game for the Bruins as well. The Bruins are coming off the second loss in conference play this season, but have already secured the No. 1 seed in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
