Athletics Announces New Hire and Staff Restructuring

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri Director of Athletics Brady Barke announced a number of changes to the department's senior leadership team. Dr. Shannon Yates has been added to the staff as Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator. Nate Saverino, Jeff Honza and Dr. Robert Greim have all assumed new responsibilities.

"I believe it is important to challenge our staff and provide them with opportunities to continue to grow so I'm pleased to announce these advancements within our administrative staff," said Barke. "Nate, Jeff, and Robert have been instrumental in the development of our new strategic plan. Each of them have provided significant contributions to our department and bring valuable insight to our senior leadership team. This restructuring will allow us to better utilize each individual's talents and operate more efficiently as we work towards becoming the premier institution within the Ohio Valley Conference."

In her new role at SEMO, Yates will perform all duties of the Senior Woman Administrator for NCAA and Ohio Valley Conference matters, provide direct oversight of facilities and event management, sports medicine and strength & conditioning, and serve as the primary sport administrator for the women's soccer, women's gymnastics and women's tennis programs. She will also provide leadership and support for Title IX and gender equity initiatives and issues, in addition to serving as a liaison between the department and Human Resources.

Yates comes to Cape Girardeau from Valparaiso University, where she served as the Associate Athletic Director for Event Management and was a member of the Athletic Director's senior staff for two years. She served as a sport administrator, oversaw the ticket office and sports medicine department, in addition to coordinating game operations planning for all 21 athletics teams. Prior to that, Yates worked in the Wake County Public School System (2012-2016) and was an Assistant Athletic Director for Operations at North Carolina State (1992-2012). She received her bachelor's (Psychology), master's (Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management) and doctorate (Higher Education Administration) at North Carolina State.

"I'm very excited to welcome Shannon into the Redhawk family," said Barke. "She is very well respected in the industry and the breadth of Shannon's experience will be a tremendous asset to our coaches, staff, and student-athletes. She will serve as a critical piece to our senior leadership team and will provide significant assistance in managing the day-to-day operations of the department."

Saverino has been elevated to Associate Director of Athletics and will be the sport administrator for baseball and volleyball, while overseeing external affairs, ticket sales and marketing and promotions. He will continue to be in charge of the Redhawks Club, while focusing his day-to-day attention on increasing revenue through corporate and ticket sales, licensing and branding. A graduate of SEMO who received his bachelor's degree in Sport Management and master's degree in Higher Education, Saverino is in his eighth year as part of Barke's administrative staff.

Honza will expand his role and update his title to Assistant Director of Athletics for Strategic Communications. Honza, in his 10th year at SEMO, will work as sport administrator for softball in addition to enhancing opportunities for strategic exposure through video, digital and print media. He worked closely with Barke to develop the Redhawks new full-time Coordinator of Digital Media position that was added to the athletics staff on Sept. 1. He also serves as the department's liaison for all ESPN+ and OVC Digital Network productions. Honza graduated from Ashland University (Ohio) with a bachelor's degree in Communications.

Greim, who is in his second year as SEMO's Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance and Eligibility, had sport administrator for track & field and cross country added to his responsibilities. Greim oversees the department's Academic Services area and handles compliance for all of the Redhawks sports programs.
