Lawrence, Kan. – Southeast Missouri women's basketball fell by one point, 51-50, in a nail biter with the Kansas Jayhawks.

The first quarter started out slow for both teams on the offensive end, each team committing six turnovers and shooting under 40 percent from the field. Both teams started to find a rhythm at the end of the period, with five of the quarter's 11 field goals coming in the final 60 seconds.

At the end of one, Southeast trailed 14-11.

The offense continued to roll for both teams in the second quarter, with each team's shooting increasing to over 40 percent for the game. Both teams traded buckets back and forth throughout the period, with the margin never exceeding five points.

Kansas led 28-25 at halftime.

The Redhawks came out very aggressive on offense to start the second half, going on a 6-0 run to take the lead 31-28. They remained on a roll offensively throughout the quarter, going on another 8-0 run while also limiting Kansas to just four field goals in the period.

Southeast led 41-37 at the of the third quarter.

Kansas came out as the aggressors on offense to start the fourth quarter, opening on a 6-0 run to reclaim the lead.
Deja Jones stopped the bleeding with a lay in to tie the game at 43 with six minutes remaining.

After falling down one point, Southeast reclaimed the lead 45-44 with four minutes left. Kansas then answered with a three-point play from Tyler Johnson, going up 47-45.
Ashton Luttrull then tied the game with a pair of free throws with 56 seconds to play.

Kylee Kopatich was fouled with 51 seconds to play and split the pair, giving the Jayhawks a one point lead. Kopatich was fouled again after
Tesia Thompson was off on a lay up attempt. She hit both free throws, stretching the Kansas lead to 50-47.

Ashton Luttrull missed a three-point attempt the next possession, forcing SEMO to foul. Sydney Benoit split the pair, giving Kansas a four point cushion.
Ashton Luttrull knocked down a three at the buzzer narrowing the final margin to one point.

Luttrull was the leading scorer for the Redhawks, finishing with 15 points in the contest.

Mandy Madden added eight points and eight rebounds.

Southeast will have the week off for final examinations. They will return to action on Dec. 19 verses the Evansville Purple Aces. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at the Show Me Center.
