
Redhawks Swept by Rival Southern Illinois

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southeast Missouri (3-7) fell to Southern Illinois (7-3), 3-0 (19-25, 19-25, 15-25), in straight sets Tuesday night at Davies Gymnasium.
SIU put together a pair of five-point runs to take an early advantage in the match.
Trailing, 20-9, Southeast used a 7-1 rally to pull to within five (21-16). The Salukis then scored four of the last seven points to take the opening set, 25-19.
Southeast gained some momentum early in the second set when it scored three-straight points to get an 8-6 advantage.
Kills by Nzingha Clarke and Korrine Croft, followed by a service ace from Haley Roberts, led to the Redhawks only lead in the set. After that, SIU secured the next five points and remained in control the rest of the way, again winning by a score of 25-19.
SIU and Southeast went back-and-forth most of the third set until the Salukis pulled away for good.
Clinging to a 16-14 lead, SIU scored seven unanswered points to fuel a 9-1 surge and polish off its sweep with a 25-15 victory.
Clarke led the Redhawks with 11 kills and a .647 hitting percentage, while Katarina Rotta added her fourth double-double of the season. Rotta finished with 27 assists and 10 digs.
Southeast returns to action at the Bradley Tournament in Peoria, Illinois this weekend. The Redhawks open tournament play against Texas-El Paso and host Bradley Friday, before wrapping things up against DePaul Saturday.
This weekend's tournament marks Southeast's final tune-up before Ohio Valley Conference play.
