Redhawks Unable to Snap SIUE Winning Streak

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri (8-12, 1-6) was unable to stop an SIU Edwardsville (11-9, 6-1) winning streak that has now reached six games in a 60-48 loss on Tuesday evening at the Show Me Center.
Erin Bollmann led the Redhawks with 14 points and seven rebounds while Jasmine Robinson added 12 points, two assists, two steals and a career-high two blocks in the defeat.
SIUE had four players score in double figures, led by Tierny Austin's 12 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Donshel Beck added 11 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Micah Jones recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards while Gwen Adams also contributed 10 points.
For the game, SIUE shot 40.0% (22-for-55) from the field compared to a 32.8% (20-for-61) shooting mark by Southeast. The Cougars outrebounded the Redhawks 47-32 and forced 13 turnovers.
The Cougars got out to an 18-9 lead before Southeast battled back to pull within three at 18-15 on a layup by Hillary Lively with 6:26 left before halftime.
At intermission, SIUE led 25-23 but the Redhawks defense held the Cougars to a 2-of-20 shooting mark to close the first half.
Robinson led Southeast with six first-half points while Bollmann added five points. Olivia Hackmann tied a career-high with three blocks to go along with four points and three rebounds during the first 20 minutes.
The Redhawks shot 35.7% (10-for-28) in the first half while the Southeast defense held SIUE to a 28.6% (8-for-28) mark from the floor. From beyond the arc, the Redhawks were 0-for-6 before halftime while SIUE went 2-for-6.
The Cougars were 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the opening half while Southeast was just 3-for-7 from the charity stripe.
Austin paced SIUE before intermission with seven points, five rebounds and three assists. Jones scored six points and grabbed seven boards in the first half.
In the second half, the Cougars outscored Southeast 35-25 and did not trail after going ahead 28-27 with 16:32 left. SIUE shot 51.9% (14-for-27) from the floor after halftime compared to just a 33.3% (10-for-33) total for the Redhawks. Southeast drained four 3-pointers during the final 20 minutes.
