Meet Notes | Free Webcast

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri gymnastics team hosts Ball State in a Valentine's Day special Friday night. The meet begins at 6:30 p.m. in Houck Field House.

The Redhawks gymnasts will be baking cookies for all in attendance and free popcorn will be given to fans wearing Pink. The meet also features a Pink Up event sponsored by Sain Francis Medical Center, to help support breast cancer awareness.

About Ball State – Ball State enters Friday's dual 2-7 on the season and 0-4 in the Midwest Athletic Conference. The Cardinals last competed on Feb. 9, a dual they lost to Western Michigan 193.175-190.525.

BSU does not have anyone who competes in the all-around but have several strong scoring averages including Erin Patchey with a 9.711 on the vault. Her highest score is a 9.800 last Sunday. Brooklyn Schumacher owns the top uneven bars average with a 9.633. Samantha Santos owns the top beam routine with an average of 9.608. Deasiha Christian has the top floor routine with a 9.761 and a season-high of 9.875.

Last Meet –  The Redhawks scored a season-high 194.075 in a tri-meet victory over Alaska and UIC. The Redhawks had the second-highest score in school history on the vault with a 48.975 and a season-high 48.925 on the floor. Eight personal records were broken and none were bigger than a 9.775 by Alyssa Tucker on the balance beam as she anchored the lineup for the score. The other personal record of note was Bailey Walker's 9.875 on the floor as she won the event.

Tucker finished second in the all-around with a 38.900 as the Redhawks won every event as a team.

First Touch:

Who 2 Watch 4: Bailey Walker set a personal-record on the floor exercise while taking first place against UIC and Alaska. The freshman scored a 9.875 as part of Southeast's 48.925 as a team. Walker came through when the Redhawks needed her most to help secure the victory. She also scored a 9.675 at Missouri on Friday night, which was also Southeast's top finisher in that dual.

Now That's a Vault: The Redhawks scored its second-highest total in school history on the vault on Feb. 9 against UIC and Alaska. The tandem of Tucker, Thomas, Hamilton, Vanderpool, Fosnow and Walker scored a 48.975, which is second all-time only to a 49.000 set Feb. 18, 1995 against Seattle Pacific.

First Impressions: With half of a squad that is freshmen, it is easy to deploy a large amount of rookies into competition. Head coach Kristi Ewasko calls upon six freshmen routinely when competing. Typically four freshmen compete in the vault, which is the most of any event. Right now three freshmen have the teams highest score or are tied with the highest score on an event. They are Ashley Thomas on vault with a 9.825, Alyssa Tucker on Beam with a 9.775 and Bailey Walker on the floor with 9.875.
